  • I understand the cynicism, but, I actually think that GM knows what happened to Epstein. From reading interviews and her online presence, you can tell quickly that she is a very timid and fearful person in the face of all of this, but she also seems to display the usual sense of self-preservation that most of us have too.

I think she knows that she is at risk of being ‘suicided’ by speaking to the US government. I don’t think Trump would get her to agree to say nothing happened and let her free, because if she is free and fucks off to Belize, she could still ruin his fucking life from 3,000 miles away.

Personally, I think that the situation we are looking at is that she knows that if she doesn’t pipe up and drop more dirt, she WILL be silenced before that can happen. I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibilities that GM has a dead-man’s switch operating somewhere; for Christ’s sake, she was the chief of staff of the world’s largest and most elaborate sex trafficking and extortion ring.

Why would it be beyond the pale for her to have shipped a box of Epstein’s hard drives from his Florida properties? They could easily have been shipped to some douche in another country who benefits from a trust for as long as they sit on that information, with instructions to release the documents online if GM is reported as dead.

  • Sometimes, designing systems for non-technical people requires a little compromise on the licensing extremism that is very baked into FOSS culture.

It is why most Linux folks are stoked that Linux can play Windows games reliably — it means that millions of Windows lifers are getting exposed to Arch Linux for the first time. Sure, Steam is proprietary, and so are Nvidia drivers, but nobody decides to start with Linux and stay there (they do, but, I am talking single digit numbers vs the billions using Windows). Everyone has to start somewhere.

That said, big frown on Ubuntu. I would personally prefer something like Debian that has fewer major update increments, or an immutable Arch setup.

You are correct that office jobs are less physically strenuous, but they come with their own unique mental horrors. Nobody at a factory spends a week working on a report, only for their boss to decide on a Friday afternoon that everything is wrong and needs to be redone by Monday with no overtime pay, or any opportunity to say ‘no, I can’t take that job.’

Especially with Work from Home, there is no separation between the stress of needing to perform and the relaxation associated with home. You are on, ALL THE TIME, and most people who work at offices for salaries are expected to be available to chat / meet at any time of day, including at 2 or 3 AM if you are working with Indians or Hong Kongers.

Yeah I am not destroying my knees, but my self-confidence and mental health are absolute dogshit.

Don’t be classist, folks. If someone needs to work to survive, they are more alike you than they are not like you. Separating ourselves from each other only serves the wealthiest among us.

  • It was because aspics were meant to ‘contain’ stuff, not just be gross, savory Jell-O. Like, a traditional aspic salad would have various fruits suspended in it.

I think when gelatin became common in grocery stores, people were just all about the novelty. If you read cookbooks from the 50s that have these recipes in them, you see a commonality — people were just chuffed as chips that they could make a cake that jiggles lol.

I had one of these colleagues. He insisted that he respects force, but whenever I pushed back, homie would run crying to our mutual boss.

One time, I snapped and yelled at him that I am a 15 year veteran, I know how to do my job. I ended up being forced to apologize to him for not respecting his ‘many years of experience.’
