Let’s give some love to authors from Africa! Share your favourite African author and mention at least one book from them you’d recommend.
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor
I love a picture book she wrote, called Brave Bora.
(CC childrens book about the nervousness of getting an injection at the doctors)
I recently read The Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz and it was excellent.
I love Mia Couto books, he really can mesh the fantastic and the real very well. Give a read in Sleepwalking Land whenever you can!
If I can share a few books I’ve really enjoyed:
So Long a Letter (1979) - Mariama Ba
The Old Drift (2019) - Namwali Serpell
Tekusat (ትኩሳት) (1997) - Sebhat Gebre-Egzhiaber
Things Fall Apart (1958) - Chinua Achebe
Patchwork (2011) - Ellen Banda-Aaku
The Wedding of Zein (1966) - Tayeb Salih
No worries, it is time for people to see that authors are everywhere on the planet, not just in one corner 😀 If you have more. Do not hesitate 😁
Bryce Courtenay - The Power of One was my favourite.
