I’m so confused by how Reddit is being moderated now. I had someone follow me to various subreddits, responding to every comment I made with a particular anti trans slur, (the one that rhymes with “moon”, not sure if I’m allowed to say it here) and a demand that I join the “41 percent” (which basically means “kill yourself.”) I reported their account, just once, and it was the first time I’d ever reported anyone. A few hours later, I was permanently banned for “abusing the report button”. I tried making another account and was instantly banned. The accounts of other people in my household have also been permanently banned, which is the most confusing part of all of it.

The account that was harassing me is still up as far as I’m aware. So, apparently it’s fine to call people slurs and tell them to die, but they’re not allowed to complain about it.

So, I’m new to this place. I was told it was better.

Would you mind linking your old account or some old comments? I’d love to have something substantive to show off to people who don’t believe how fascist Reddit is these days

No good deed goes unpunished on Reddit.

I caught a temp ban for something similar, and decided to never return.

They accused me of “abusing the report button” for reporting a post that was advocating violence to advance the political agenda of a far right, ethno-nationalist, religious fundamentalist ideology.

Reddit admins are terrorist sympathizers when it advances the class interests of the site’s owners.

I got banned for some of the most benign shit on reddit. I also saw them do nothing about right wing hate. But to hear the story from right wingers, reddit is an echo chamber for the left and they are persecuted unfairly there

Both of my accounts got smacked with the permbanhammer unreasonably harshly especially considering the “offense” being that I said Neo-Nazis should be named and shamed.

Reddit admins are Nazi sympathizers and the entire platform is rotten.

It’s not any better here, just more progressive. Bans are easy to come by here as well.

I got banned a couple years ago for the same thing.

Moderators can report reports as ‘abusive’, and Reddit basically accepts their word without bothering to actually check anything.

Naturally, certain groups have been exploiting the fuck out of this situation to silence opposing viewpoints.

You could appeal the ban, but most likely Reddit won’t read it and you’ll get an automated response.

As for the repeat ban, you’re running into Reddit’s ban evasion features. They use IP address and browser fingerprinting to track you, even when logged out. Easily defeated, with a little effort - assuming you want to.

Reddit is a tool of fascist states now, when they went public the pivoted from a user based buisness model to a government surveillance and propaganda based buisness model.

It was across multiple communities, as the user was following me and responding to everything I said. The comment I reported was in r/memes, and the first place they started hassling me was r/funny.

Once I know it’s alright to do so, I’ll share a screenshot of one of the messages they sent to me.

You got ip banned. Consider that Reddit is owned by Corpo Nazi simps and main admins are Evan Nazis themselves, that should clear up the confusion

OP just figured the arbitrary and capricious limits of the matrix.

Welcome to the fedi where mods are limited to their fiefdom!

    Centralized power is cancer

Congrats on the IP ban, those are usually reserved for serious offenders. Take it as a badge of honor, honestly.

Unfortunately transphobia and homophobia persist here too. Maybe less visibly than reddit at least.

The differense in the Fediverse is that absolutely no instance admin here needs to show “user number up” to some owner. On the contrary, it costs actual money to run the instances so there’s an actual incentive to just throw out bad actors as soon as they’re identified.

And even when it’s otherwise, people can defederate those instances. Yes, the internet became a worse place every time antisocial people got a less restricted outlet (starting with Something Awful and 4chan, now they have basically all of mainstream social media + private Discords/Matrices/Telegrams for those who want to organize in secret), yes networked harrasment organized on those made the “don’t feed the trolls” an irrelevant advice if not used by said trolls themselves (seen gamergate people using the term to mean “do as we want you to”), but the old internet was a better part.

        Lots of Reddit transplants.

You get the bad with the good, unfortunately. We’re not a corporate shit pile, but we’re still The Internet.
