Think pad? Think again.
Not trans, but soon I’ll also have a ThinkPad, where can I get stickers for it? I’m looking into Manjaro instead of Arch though.
where can I get stickers for it?
wherever stickers are sold?
Careful, owning a second hand thinkpad comes with programming socks
Manjaro is kinda crappy tbh, I’d recommend EndeavourOS or CachyOS instead.
Groupthink.
My personal experience with it but aight.
You can find those kind of sticker packs on ebay and other shopping sites.(Goes for around 2 - 10 US bucks) You can also custom print your own ones (Usually hella ton cheaper)
mint?
No KDE based version to my knowledge, did like the XFCE version save for it being broken when used with KDE apps like Kate.
I’m not even trans, I just like the aesthetic and these socks help me program better
Wait I always supposed that those sock pictures were from girls…
They often are :3

Men may not like it, but this is the ideal IT body.

…this honestly checks out entirely
It’s the same guy.
how dare you to assume it´s gender?

Got the think pad and used to have the socks, but no Arch. Fedora and Debian for me.
I don’t get the stickers thing.
The stickers thing has always been an “ick” for me. My friends enjoyed torturing me with this reaction to stickered laptops until I sent them a video of a person giving a talk with a massive minion sticker plastered on top of all their other stickers, to which even they were grossed out.
That said, I did have a plan to have a battle jacket made with patches like what the stickers on the laptop would be were I to attend a conference. Damn, I just realized I have attended a conference and completely forgot to follow up on that. Regret.
Using one to cover up logo or brand etc is understandable tho.
Some people wanna customize their machine and don’t care about opsec.
I would never put stickers on my machine unless it was enough to completely cover it with hex stickers.
We have seen this meme many times, but this is our first time noticing the “plural inside” sticker.
Of course we own a crusty old sticker-emblazoned thinkpad that we keep running out of spite.
plot twist: its the same person
except they don’t identify as a person anymorre
Same here. I have a ThinkPad, and don’t identify as a person. It just happens that I’m not a femboy (to my knowledge)
I can’t relate ; I’ve never had a think pad
I support their journey into systemhood 😌
This is either really transphobic or really trans positive :p
Plot twist: the second person is the same as the first.
i have socks but no thinkpad :(
i have thinkpad but no socks
wanna hangout?OwO
:3 ok but sockdreams is the best website they have such cute socks!
oh, for systemd sake, why are there business representatives in my lemmy, i just wanted to rice up a laptop together
shoo, shoo, i’m not bying usa socks, i’m too close to Poland for that
Miss my thinkpads. One was IBM
The IBM branded ones are cooler. Too bad they are ancient now. The Lenovos are still pretty good computers though
The last of the IBM-branded ones are Core 2 Duo machines that can, with some upgrades, passably run a modern Linux distro. With that said, they are still nearly 20 years old.
The last of the IBM-built ones are still 32-bit machines.
I call bullshit. You’re telling me they’re choosing some bullshit knockoff cherry red crap over arguably one of the best laptop keyboards ever created?
That’s AI man.
Red is crap. Gotta go blue or clear.
Well if we’re talking switches, get with the kailh box dark yellow and feel the burn.
Alps
I’ll allow it.
Alps and Topre are the best.
I really want to try a topre keyboard but I haven’t come across one cheap or free yet and they’re so expensive usually
NIZ makes pretty good Topre clones that sell for around 200 $.
Mechanical switches? Ugh, brother, ugh, what’s that brother?
Ascend with me to hall effect switches
Who the fuck buys a keyboard? I usually get free ones from relatives.
People who are not poor
I’m in the remnants of middle class (in Slovenia, but still), but am still a student, so no disposable income.
Yeah hall effect is cool, but I demand a good old fashioned crack or pop sound when I hit a key. Typing should sound like armies of beetles with swords fighting.
I went all in on magnetic analog keys. Everything can be joystick now.
hall effect switches
Is that another term for optical switches?
No, another term for magnetic switches
Shit… One of my coworkers is giving me one of these to play with…
Guess I’m ordering the socks this weekend…
glhf :3
I love this meme but I always wonder what they’re doing with Linux, like if I had an old thinkpad I think I’d only be as creative as to play movies in VLC 😔
Ive got an old network that eol got a bunch loaded with n64 and ps1 rims on it.
Contributing to opensource libraries that make the whole tech field not collapse.
Using it for learning about cyber security mostly. Reading, browsing, just laptop stuff aside from that.
Polishing dotfiles for the color schemes and vimrc. Version controlling those dotfiles. Using neovim to edit the dotfiles configuring neovim. Scripting the tiling wm to open neovim in a way that fits editing the neovim config. Configuring ansible to be able to deploy the neovim dotfiles quickly from codeberg after reinstalling arch because it’s the weekend and the kernel had some bloat parts so the whole system felt wrong.
With mine, I’m working on a few things:
- Getting better at CLI, specifically tmux and helix. I’m ok at it now, but could use the practice.
- Learning Rust. It’s nice to not have distractions when I want to focus.
- Experimenting with some alternative OSs. I’m extremely conservative with my main machine, but I don’t really care about these laptops.
- Enjoying simplicity.
I’m a secret third thing
