The first episode of the English dub of FLCL. It’s so random and excessive that it feels like I’m watching a video from Max0r or Ssethzenacht. XD
I don’t think one simply understands FLCL. I didn’t like it — I couldn’t find anything I enjoyed about it. I can appreciate what they were going for even if I don’t fully understand it. I would say it’s better for someone who has seen more anime and understands the cultural tropes. Not something to jump into if you’ve seen a ‘starter’ anime (something like My Hero Academia, Sword Art Online, or the like) and are looking to go deeper. But definitely something to check out eventually. Fortunately it’s short.
I just finished watching episode 3 of 你的孩子不是你的孩子 “On Children” (Literal Translation: Your child is not your child), episode titled: 茉莉的最後一天 (The Last Day of Molly)
Its like a hour and a half each episode, kinda like a mini-movie.
Episode 3 deals with um… suicide
Literally the first act, before the title screen. It kinda triggered something in me.
As someone who kinda kinda thinks about suicide all the time, it’s kinda intriguing to see the aftermath of a suicide…
The first act kinda triggered something in me, like… I always just imagined what my suicide would look like… like do I have the guts to just leap off a high place and just leave this fucking world? Like I just see this person (abeit it’s fiction) just leaps off their window at their home-apartment… like… omg… that could just be me one day… just jump off some place high… am I even brave enough to do that?
In the story the mother goes to investigate her child’s suicide, and involved some fringe science memory reading stuff from a dead body, but I’m pretty sure my mother wouldn’t even put in that much effort. I’m just the second child, a “backup” to her. She still got the other one to put all their hopes into. I mean, she already threatened to give all of their assets to my older brother because I’m so “useless” to them. My mom would just pretend I was never born, just like I was never intended to be born.
(Show’s on Netflix, never found a torrent for it, normally I binge through all these back to back, but this one is taking an emotional toll on me since I’m also ethnic Chinese, I kinda skipped the 2nd one a bit since that sortof deals with bullying in school and I had to take a break from it… bullying and fighting was a very recent trauma I had)
We just finished The Americans. Husband watched F1 this morning. Now beginning Salem’s Lot. I’m recovering from surgery and put on Love is Blind Italy when i just want something brainless, but i like to listen it Italian and read the subtitles.
The news, interesting times.
We finished Terminator Zero (Japanese animated series set in the Terminator film universe, only this is mostly in Japan), started The Summer Hikaru Died, which is an anime about a boy whose best friend dies (the name is not ironic) and he is replaced by something like an alien or other supernatural force (I’m not really sure).
As far as live-action goes, we’re watching Bates Motel. Finished season 4, started season 5. Show kinda sucks at first, but it gets a lot better. Creepy too. Almost no characters in this show are good people — pretty much just best boy Dylan and best girl Emma.
Terminator Zero
I watched that like a few weeks ago, I too recommend. Japanese voice only, idk why, their voice acting always sounds filled with more emotions.

Most recently I took part in a Watch Party of “Bad Santa”, then fell asleep watching Seagal’s “Driven to Kill”. The first was bad in a good way, the second was bad in a bad way.
About three seasons of Bluey. It’s really good.
