mpd with rmpc - unix philosophy at work. Have been rockin it for 3 years now. probably gonna stick with mpd for the rest of my linux journey.
Same. I’ve tried dozens of music players, but I always return to mpd, though I use Cantata as my front end. And M.A.L.P. allows me to control playback from my Android devices.
I also quite like QuodLibet, but my computer has a bug where the music randomly pauses when using Gstreamer (which QL uses), so for the most part I use mpd.
Feishin. It’s a navidrome/jellyfin player.
I love it, because it has smart playlists that are actually smart! It lets me create “random” playlists from my music collection, in a way that works for me.
Strawberry or VLC. I wish someone would port Winamp but Strawberry is pretty close. I miss my skins. Showing my age here.
Linamp: It really whips the Alpaca’s ass!
(I wish this was real, lol)
For clones of WinAmp for Linux, there’s qmmp (which I use) and I believe some distros still have an xmms package (xmms2 is a bit of a different beast). xmms hasn’t seen an update in a long time but like old versions of WinAmp it still works. Both of them have some support for classic WinAmp skins. Neither one supports the full feature sets of WinAmp such as the media library or video playback, so it depends on what parts of WinAmp you’re looking for.
WinAmp also runs under wine and basic stuff works, but last time I tried it I ran into issues with some of the plugins and the basic stuff is covered by qmmp so other than nostalgia reasons I didn’t really see much point in running WinAmp under Wine.
Rhythmbox for me. I was using Spotify for a long time but I’ve been dialing that usage back a lot this year. Another factor was that I have an older PC and when I play games it uses more resources than I’d like. I took the time and setup my playlists in Rhythmbox and I’ve been happy. It’s not winning any design awards but it does the job.
Feishin, connected to my jellyfin server.
I also use Feishin, but connected to my navidrome server lol. Its such a good looking music player
Audacious
I use Sayonara for my local music player.
Gapless
Sayonara player on desktop.
Lollypop on mobile.
I feel like you just made that up.
HastaLavista on desktop
Locus in mobile.
I really enjoy Tauon.
Seconding Tauon!!
Strawberry, Audacious, qmmp and Amberol are all decent audio players I have been happy with.
I started with Clementine for a few years, and then migrated to Strawberry, I love the mood bar.
I am still on Windows, but am looking to switch to Endevour OS next year or so…
I second Audacious, it’s ALMOST foobar, the only thing it doesn’t do is create a new playlist from a folder drag into empty space.
EDIT: also, I like to put it into the system tray

Basically ssh into the box in my workshop and
mplayermy whole music folder on shuffle.Strawberry has been kind of buggy for me. I don’t have an alternative player yet so I am looking for input here too.
Fooyin’s great so far.
That’s what I use but honestly I find the UI frustrating. Its difficult to search and make playlists
I came over to Fooyin from Foobar2k, so the UI translated right over.
Strawberry
Seconding this. I used foobar2000 until I switched to Linux, and Strawberry has been the best replacement I’ve found (actually better imo)!
Only downside is no DSD support.
