the duo stumbles across tons of iconic Wasteland locations like New Vegas, a fan favourite Fallout 4 spot, Dinky the T. Rex, and one of the most mysterious cut locations from Fallout: New Vegas.
Oh no, RockPaperShotgun is using AI to write its articles aren’t they. That’s a shame.
It’s not a RockPaperShotgun article, it’s PCGamer
It’s rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock, actually.
It’s odd, but the location of Vault 24 is the “Starlight Drive-In Theatre”, which is from 4.
A human probably would have assumed it was a franchise, or just a reused name though.
not to be confused with the mojave drive in, which is where old world blues starts
starlight is where the cut vault 24 might have been had it been made into the game. pretty cool deep cut by the showrunners
That’s…weird…i can’t help but feel the show runners maybe used some AI in drawing out the story?
I’m a little excited, I’ve never had a show I wanted to hate watch before. Season one could have been good, I really liked the costuming and set designs. The characters were entertaining enough as well. It was so close to being an easy 8-9/10 for me, but then after a few establishing episodes it had to start having a plot, and that plot was so stupidly bad it dragged the whole experience down to a 5-6 and retroactively embittered the entire franchise in my mind.
That big iron scene got me so hyped
Hard pass
u dont like new vegas?
I love New Vegas, passing on the show and anything it has to say about the game
Season 1 was way better than I ever expected it to be. Idk your reasons for disliking it, but I thought it did a good job representing the game. There’s been plenty of terrible adaptations of games to movies or shows and I don’t consider this one of them.
I didn’t expect much and was still disappointed, didn’t make it past episode 4 or 5. Production value was great, everything looked good and was a reasonable representation of the setting and aesthetics of the games, but the plot and behavior of the characters was routinely just immersion-ruiningly stupid and made no goddamn sense. I understand not everyone finds that to be as much of a deal breaker though, so it’s not something I’m giving anybody else shit for enjoying, but I have no reason not to expect that their contributions to the lore will also make no sense.
I won’t say these kinds of characters were inevitable, but they were inevitable from a company that wants the product to appeal to the common denominator.
i dont get it. the show is in new vegas, but you say you love new vegas but wont watch the show? it just doesnt make sense
I watched the first few episodes, it was pretty but stupid. The game had all sorts of shit that didn’t make sense but I always had the option to ignore it and go do something else because it’s a game, in a fixed perspective narrative experience like a TV series there’s no choice but to stare straight into the stupid or stop watching, so I stopped watching.
Just like the game, you kinda have to get to the end to figure out stuff. But what specifically didn’t make sense? Maybe I can help you figure it out.
I am 100% sure you’ve never helped anyone figure a thing out in your entire life
It’s possible to love New Vegas the game, but not the show. It’s a matter of what you’re looking for.
I would be interested in a series that takes inspiration from the setting, atmosphere and spirit of productions like A Boy and his Dog, Neon City, Mad Max 2, works by Albert Pyun (Radioactive Dreams, Cyborg, Knights, Omega Doom) and Italian 80s post-apocalyptic movies (e.g. 2019: After the Fall of New York) if we are talking about older movies.
For newer productions, the new Mad Max films, Turbo Kid, The Divide also reflect what I would expect from a Fallout series.
An independent DIY spirit, a b-movie aesthetic, lots of gore and guts, but also subtlety and nuance.
That’s clearly not what the show is aiming for.
i fail to see how that isnt what the show is aiming for
Look at the trailers for Turbo Kid and Neon City:
Does this look anything remotely like the Fallout show?
And this is only the aesthetics and atmosphere. I haven’t really touched upon other areas.
I am not saying you or anyone else can’t enjoy the show, but it’s not unreasonable for someone who enjoys New Vegas to not like the show. That’s all I am saying.
Are you not able to enjoy something just because it’s not exactly like the game? Talk about a tough crowd.
Not at all. I never mentioned anything about the show needing to be exactly like the game.
If anything I was referring to the general aesthetic, world building and tone of the presentation.
I would be fine with a loose adaption as long as it wasn’t generic and the writing wasn’t primitive.
Check out the no mutants allowed forums. There are a shockingly large amount of “fans” who hate a majority of the games. None of them like more than 3 games, most only one or two, and they all hate the show. But none of them can articulate why or what is getting ruined. They can’t give any specific examples, either. They just all complain that they’re ruining everything and pat each other on the back without ever saying anything.
Tons of them can and do articulate exactly what they dislike about the show, you are either illiterate or lying
But none of them can articulate why or what is getting ruined.
That’s not true at all. I provided some context around why I think the show is not interesting:
[A lack of] an independent DIY spirit, a b-movie aesthetic, lots of gore and guts, but also subtlety and nuance.
I also didn’t mention anything about the show ruining anything. I was merely explaining why I like New Vegas and I find the show to be subpar.
Ooh everyone! Check out how edgy this guy is! He’s probably on NMA, where nobody is allowed to like more than one game.
“Edgy” lol I literally just said I don’t like the show, you’re clearly feeling insecure about your media preferences and I’m 100% not going to help with that so you should probably run away now
But what about the show didn’t you like? Fallout fans love shitting on any new fallout stuff. I totally get shitting on 4 for certain (a lot of) things, but the show?!? Really? And I’ve never seen someone say anything specific that they don’t like.
The plot and characters routinely make no sense, simple as
Give examples.
People are allowed to not like things dude
Yeah, and a lot of people turn that into their entire personality.
The person you’re replying to, in the comment you’re replying to, said they love New Vegas, so clearly not their whole personality.
Are you sure you don’t just dislike the fact that they don’t like the show? How do you feel about the show?
My opinion is the norm. It’s backed up by critics and fans. I want to know what specifically this person has against the show, because it seems like some fans just love to hate regardless of quality.
Honestly, I liked it. I didn’t think I would, but it captures the spirit of the games pretty well.
The spirit & aesthetic of the games was reasonably represented, just not enough for me to like the story
Fair. I feel the same about Fallout 3 tbh.
Same and it was my first Fallout game lol, the gameplay and setting are great but the actual story is kinda dogshit, better than FO4 but that’s an incredibly low bar
