I always call mine “bro” or “my son”. Rarely do I ever actually say his name lol.
I frequently add ‘cat’ to the name, so Zola becomes Zolacat, Dora is DoraCat and Bella is BellaCat or the BellaMonster
Yes. All the time. She doesn’t care but I still call her.
His name is Rio (sing it). Alternatively called ‘Mr Krasnapolsky’ or 'Laddy’or ‘Mr Pussycat’.
On more than one occasion have I seen acquaintances try to reason with their cats and warn them that if they don’t stop doing this or that then they will face various consequences, and when the cat inevitably keeps doing it because they literally don’t speak human language, they punish them. Some people anthropomorphize their pets to a disturbing degree and talk to them like children would to an imaginary friend. It’s deeply unsettling to me.
Sometimes. Other times just called him by nicknames like mate or dickhead. Depending on what he did.
100% I also have a lot of nicknames for the lil bastard.
Ours is usually baby boy, horrible beast, buddy, or nutty buddy. If it’s his actual name, it’s usually because I’m gasping it out and scolding him for doing something naughty.
One of my cats chose her name, so we only address her by that. If we’re getting fancy we’ll append onto it, but never totally different names. We also have two brothers, one has many nicknames, but we still call him by his name about half the time. The other we call by his name most of the time.
I think you know the question that no doubt is on everyone’s mind ;)
cat tax?

How cat choose own name?
So when she first showed up some other people in my house called her “Bristles” and I was like oh no, not that. I compiled a list of names and just would try addressing her by a name off the list a few times a day. She was napping when I got to her name, but I said it and she lifted her head, looked at me and did that little mrrr? so it’s her name.
Nice. Might try that next time I get a cat.
It worked out well for us. She clearly responds to her name; even if it is just to shut her eyes tighter when she wants to ignore us.
Omg this is such an adorable idea!!!
Harley was a 7 year old we brought home from the shelter, and she already knew her name so we didn’t have a lot of latitude to change it on the fly.
However, she did respond just as well to “Barley”, so that became her new name, with the standard variety of variants like “Barles” (said like “Charles”), “Barlow” or “Barlikins”.
Almost everyday, but mostly a shorthand or a handful of nicknames.
Likewise. Many of those nicknames being elaborate phrases which include his name. He loves this.
When she’s in trouble. So most of the time. Otherwise instead of Moonbeam it’s missy-moo, cat, moo-moo, missy, miss kitty, or monster.
I try to use their names daily. They know them, but generally dont care lol.
One of them responds to dumby and dingus as if they were his names tho. Jus lyk me fr ig
What a coincidence! I respond to “dingus” too!
Oh shi-
Nope, he gets called Meow Meows or Kitties.
Yeah, i always call her by her name, gusfraba, krampu’s little helper
Yes, having multiple cats, they clearly understand their name.
