  • I been there! There’s like. A bunch of rocks around. Some random tomb. That was 25 years ago. I’m sure it’s still basically that. I don’t remember the whole story, but, apparently during the crusades the crusaders took the mausoleum apart and built a castle like three kilometers away on a cliff overlooking the sea, which makes sense, but that is not all because that was one of the original wonders of the world, and Turkey has a bunch of’em, one of them being the Mausoleum, another being the Temple of Artemis, not a long ride from there (Izmir? or something like that, maybe Cas or something, Turks be weird with their names my brothers and sisters) and that, too, is basically just a pile of rubble.

    Famous rubble. But rubble.

Edit: I saw the most gigantic lizard, and I thought it was part of Artemis’ temple, and I was like, holy shit, wow, look at that, them damn clever Greeks (sic!), and then it RAN AWAY and I was like HOLY SHIT IT RAN AWAY! Then some dude tried to sell me antique coins. I’m pretty sure they were fake, but even back then I had a good sense of value, and I think some of them might actually have been real. Mom din’t raise no dummy tho’, and I left, only to be harassed by dogs. Then I went to some place where there’s been like a natural gas deposit that is on fire and has been for like thousands of years, it’s like “dragon smoke”, we call it where I’m from, like it’s a clear tiny fire that just springs out of the rock and it is very weird, it’s like a gently sloping… slope, but hilly and rocky, and it is absolutely beautiful like, everything is so dry and you can smell that dryness and the herbs and all the odd plants that live in that area, and it is so real, and so pure, but anyway, that’s what I did. I love Turkey.

Another time 25 years later I lived in a tent on the Black Sea coast in Northern Turkey for three months but I had to leave for surgery, buy me a beer and I’ll tell you parts about it!

Why don’t y’all just get to machine learn all those fucking tablets you dug up, like hundreds of thousands of them, and train a fucking AI on that shit and tell us what it says instead of sitting here being a besserwisser online, HMM? If there was one good cause for AI, cuneiform would be it. Just god damned saying.

Edit: just btw I happen to know that the problem is mainly the first training set, you need cuneiformers to correctly give the answers so the model knows what to train on, and there’s like seven people in the world who do that, but I’m thinking, what if we trained an AI model on all the cuneiform we do know? Hit me up for proposals, I’m serious about this shit

Look, I will tell you this: I hear you, and I will. I know, I read some of my general comments today and, well, I should chill out a little. Sometimes it’s a lot of stress about the state of the world you know, sometimes about my life situation, about existential musings, about this and that, sometimes I vex revolutionary, what are you gonna do about it, fight me? Just kidding, I just wanna let you know that I read what you said, and yes, I should calm down. Sometimes it just gets to you, you know? It just like a hollow echo inside your soul, bouncing from one point to the other trying to find its place, like, and it just won’t stop buzzing around in there, but I guess that’s the case for most people anyways, so, anyway, likewise, and may god have mercy on our souls.

I WANT TO PUT THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR ONCE AND FOR ALL, this goes for all of you:

People are NOT DUMB because someone comes up to them and screams “watch out, dihydrogen monoxide can kill you!” because they may not be familiar with chemical nomenclature, yet may be acutely in tune with people taking to the streets protesting some substance that may affect them and their families.

If I run up to you and scream: “WATCH OUT FOR THE QUEXALCOATL!”, you won’t go like, “hold on, let me ask ChatGPT about Quexalcoatls first so I know that this isn’t just some elaborate scam to teach me a moral lesson I didn’t need but had to accept because I was actively fooled”, you know what you do? YOU DUCK.

    You DUCK!

    I always hated that one.

That one and that dumb quote, “don’t attribute to malice what can equally be attributed to incompetence”- yeah cute, but uh, no, that is not how anything fucking works, it’s a funny quote in context, it’s not a rule of fucking thumb, you’d be a dumb sucka to live by that creed, but anyway, while we were clearing the air.
