The death toll from the violence surrounding the nationwide protests in Iran has risen to at least 116, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, cited by AP.
The rights group said that over 2,600 people have been detained.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state television has reported casualties among the security forces, but has not addressed the deaths of protesters, whom it has labelled “terrorists.”

He also wants them to ally with Isreal (per his wikipedia), so I’m fine with not thinking he’s worth listening to.
That’s a pretty terrible take. Someone can be wrong and an asshole and still want democracy. I didn’t even say he was genuine, I responded to the statement “he thirsts for the crown,” which is a different debate. If you want to argue about his stance on Isreal, I agree — he’s wrong.
I just don’t think you are truly pro-democracy if you want to align with Isreal and are just using it as a dog whistle for “USA regieme change.” And yeah maybe he doesn’t want the title of crown, but how different is a “democracy” that is rigged so you keep winning?
Much different. But again, I was responding to a different statement — one that sounded like they hadn’t read the article. Commenting without reading the thing is one of my pet peeves, so I clarified.
Maybe he wants a democracy as long as they vote for him, I really can’t say. I have mixed feelings about reaching out to to the US for help, if I was a middle eastern country I would want to play nice with the USA, too. Hell, I live in Canada and follow politics, so I understand what it’s like to make peace with a shitty neighbour.
In an ideal world he would call out the US for their crap, usher in a true, secular democracy, acknowledge and support Palestine, tell Isreal to go to hell, and quietly fade away.
Oh yeah that’s a totally understandable pet peeve; I get where you’re coming from.
