The flower, worker’s cap, and the German MP18 suggest the social democratic and democratic socialist revolutionaries at the end of WW1 rather than Soviet-style Communists. At the time, the hammer-and-sickle was a general leftist symbol, and had not become strongly associated with the Bolshevik system.
