57s are still pretty prevalent, particularly for guitarists with tube amps/combos that don’t have an XLR output - especially those older amps/combos that are still going strong. It’s also the go to for miking drums in larger venues where that’s needed. As a bassist, I ended up forgoing the amp/stack for a SansAmp DI driver pedal a long time ago though - no regrets on that front.
Does it really work on stage? For me the only reason I bring my 4x10 is so I can hear myself on stage independent of how incompetent the sound-person is in that random venue to mix the monitors so people can hear themselves.
Don’t forget the 57s hanging on the amps. Or am I old and everything DI now?
Dunno, I find it too hard to get out in the evenings. There could be fields of amps with 57s dangling like carrots and I’d never know
