      The party is in power, the party represents workers that means workers are in power. It just doesn’t quite work if the party doesn’t actually properly represent the workers…

      Honestly, I think that’s the sincerely held belief of vanguardists; it can’t be authoritarian because all the people in power are workers, now, and so they’ll look out for each other (because of class solidarity) and look out for the interests of workers.

      It’s the only thing that I can think of that smooths out the contradictions, in their logic, of not viewing it as authoritarian & revolution and building solidarity being the seemingly primary concerns, at all times.

        Yeah, it’s effectively turning the party into the Vatican. Any disagreement with the party is, if sufficiently “severe”, heresy and makes you Judas a class traitor.

        And it’s not like they’re trying to hide it. The party is always right was the OFFICIAL anthem of the Eastern German ruling party.
