As many as 30,000 people could have been killed in the streets of Iran on Jan. 8 and 9 alone, two senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Health told TIME—indicating a dramatic surge in the death toll.

So many people were slaughtered by Iranian security services on that Thursday and Friday, it overwhelmed the state’s capacity to dispose of the dead. Stocks of body bags were exhausted, the officials said, and eighteen-wheel semi-trailers replaced ambulances.

The government’s internal count of the dead, not previously revealed, far surpasses the toll of 3,117 announced on Jan. 21 by regime hardliners who report directly to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. (Ministries report to the elected President.) The 30,000 figure is also far beyond tallies being compiled by activists methodically assigning names to the dead. As of Saturday, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said it had confirmed 5,459 deaths and is investigating 17,031 more.

      @Maeve@lemmygrad.ml

      Your remarks are absolutely disgusting, but unfortunately not surprising. In your own groups you and the other ‘tankies’ are literally cheering violence like this one. I don’t understand why such comments are allowed here. This is outright a repugnant mindset and has nothing to do with freedom of opinion.

          If this was reddit they would get your account violated by reporting you to reddit a thousand times on different posts until one stuck. Or just sending your name to be violated for other reasons.

          This is blatant in our faces manipulation for more war with iran so israel can keep the forever war going and not have elections or have the leadership have to admit they made a mistake or as the case may be for them to definitively blame everyone else for it.

          Idk why they would allow the failure to stay in to address the fallout from the failure though, that must be from the stacking of their government for 20 years with their appointees and their concentration of and deals with media.

            They don’t care anymore. Look at the bases, positioning, $$$$$, firepower, people unwilling to go AWOL, lose a day of work, etc.

              More than that, they probably consider the attack the best thing that happened to them, gave them an excuse to do the things they’ve long wanted in an environment where the mask is off, and the rot in western institutions is so thorough, nothing is too much for the west, not wars against 4 countries under false pretense and an ongoing ghetto reprisal for 2 years targeting civilians and a ragtag militia with small arms fighting the most advanced army in the world.

              The democrats didn’t even try to hide it either, past presidents put the breaks on Israel, no more.

      Gotta love how this article is carrying water for a gender apartheid by just playing the old “it’s just conservative values” card.
