there are apps now. i have one on my phone for fire season. we get the local unencrypted PD and the local unencrypted EMS. They broadcast over shortwave and they also have the internet stations for everyone local who would be buying a scanner. saves us all a few moneys. they have the encrypted stations too, but i don’t have the code.
