Because English is tricky, inconsistent, and sometimes downright stupid with its seemingly arbitrary spelling rules, especially with plurals
It’s like a handful of words.
There’s tons of irregular plurals in English.
And “woman” vs “women” is something that you see, what, 1500 times a day? Yeah it’s a real puzzler.
And you can’t even figure out how to properly put a comma on the number 1,500. How hard are commas?
