While I choose not to down vote in those types of communities because people are putting themselves out there, blanket expectations that any community should only get up votes when both types are options is toxic positivity.

In Jerboa, and I assume other apps, it is easy to downvote by accident while scrolling.

I still hate when a post gets a downvote and no other response, but ya gotta let it go or go mad.

Yes, I do have such a recent post.

The punishment for Atheists is finding out that there actually is a sexually repressed racist homophobic genocidal infanticidal pestilential old white man who is in charge and will never ever die and get the hell out of the way.

    A truly horrific fate

Honestly downvotes should be removed. They were originally to combat spam, but that’s not really a thing in Lemmy

I’ll downvote in an art share community if:

    • The art is politically trolling or otherwise deliberately offensive.

    • An artist is spamming there with too many posts in a short time.

    • The artist is self promoting too hard in the title/comments. (Or includes any sort of ‘clickbait’.)

    • The art is really, really, really bad. Like, “I’ve seen toddlers draw on the wall with crayon more skillfully than this” kind of bad.
