      The server you’re on!

Like how you’re on infosec.pub, the OP is on break3.social, the community (subreddit equivalent) is on lemmy.world, and I’m on pawb.social. :3

while there might be some crazy people like that man of them have different options to the status quo and provide me with food for further thought. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything there, but that thay the same with any instance.

i find how we are in this world isn’t because of the likes of the opinions on .ml bit the apathy and opinions of the average voter and citizen, so normal (as in under the bell curve) is the new crazy.

      an example

Susan Sontag was asked what she had learned from the Holocaust, and she said that 10% of any population is cruel, no matter what, and that 10% is merciful, no matter what, and that the remaining 80% could be moved in either direction.” — Kurt Vonnegut

this is the US now for example…

i wanted an instance that wasn’t defederated from them.

I went with .ml because (IIRC, I might be wrong) that was the instance that the people who made Lemmy used. I’m not wild about how .ml censors some words but it doesn’t bother me enough to change.

Amazing choice, it’s what we’ve ended up doing with break3.social and social.fedicate.org our Sharkey instances but running more instances is the goal with Lemmy or Piefed in the future.

Glad to see others host there own instance

I just picked the biggest one this time. I’ve had 3 others shut down on me since I’ve been using Lemmy.

I was looking over instances sorted by uptime, saw one that had high uptime, a lot of users, and a literal promise that shit will just work in its name. I did a bit of scoping to see that it was easy to view communities across all instances from SJW and figured, fuck it, seems like as good a choice as any.

I picked one at random. Then I quickly realised .ml is nuts so I picked a different random one. How do I feel about about my instance? No strong feelings one way or the other. It’s ok I guess

Amazing to see system admins pop up, it’s amazing to create your own instance that others can join and interact. In the future we plan on making PixelFed and Lemmy instances for certain use cases. I think the travel niche could really use the PixelFed system fairly well with how taking photos on your travels could be a helpful thing.

I also know there’s some people posting on Loops.video travel things that might work for a future instance at some point.

It worked, and was better than my previous instance.

I have problems with control and lack of choice, when my first instance started de-federating willy nilly I started growing distaste on it. To me it wasn’t about what /was/ being censored, to me it was the fact that they were doing so in the first place, while doing so with very little public input. It gave really large Karen/power trip vibes and made me feel like at the end of the day, they didn’t really care about the userbase.

i chose mander.xyz because they do not de-federate or block any instances (other than threads) - I would like the opportunity to do my own censoring. That said, it is a great instance with good up time and hosted communities. Science FTW. A++
