        Britain did this during WWII. Over 10% of their draftees were sent down into the fucking coal mines instead of going off to shoot nazis.

        If my life is already forfeit at that point, then everything I do will be in retaliation. A person with nothing left to lose is the most dangerous person. If everyone came with that attitude, it would make anything like conscription a nightmare.

          Prisoners are excplicitly allowed to be used as slaves as per 13th amendment. It doesn’t sugarcoat or rationalize it, just states that you can keep slaves if you’re punishing them for a crime.
