Its really hard to enjoy a nice day on the beach when this guy decides to sun himself right in front of you. I contacted the local bird rescue, but he hopped in the water before I could get close.

Bonus pigeon:

Nothing I could do anyway. Wrangling and driving him somewhere would be at least a two person job, and no one around here wanted to help.

    It’s always disturbing to see a bird with a faulty wing. The critters wouldn’t survive a day without this crucial bit of high-tech machinery in working order. When watching beat-up pigeons with missing toes etc I often wonder how it ends for them, and can’t help guessing it’s the wings that somehow betray them.

    You had a better look at the cormorant than me, but it may have just been drying its wings. Cormorant feathers aren’t fully water-repellent and they need to air them out to dry.

    Edit: I took this photo last year and thought the same thing, but he was just drying off and after a while was back at it.

      Thanks, I am aware of this cormorant behavior. I couldn’t get a great pick, but the wing was definitely busted.
