Yeah, so basically the current prevailing schizo internet theory is that AI nerds have destroyed the >internet and created infinite spam.
The advertisement goons are now incapable of determining who is a bot and who is an actual human. The advertisement goons no longer want to pay as much to social media networks.
Social media networks, in full blown panic of losing potential revenue, decided to lobby governments saying “we gotta protect the kids! ID everyone to protect the kids from pedophiles!”.
The social media networks know this doesn’t really protect kids. But, it does two things (and a third accidentally).
They now can identify who is human and who is AI slop machine, or enough to appease the advertisement goons
Advertising to children is a general no-no from politicians, or something, so with ID verification they can say with confidence they’re not advertising to children because it’s been ID verification. Basically, they can weed out the children and focus on advertising to adults
The feds can now tell who is human and who is AI slop. This inadvertently helps them with tracking people and serving fresh daily dumps of propaganda, or whatever they want to do.
It’s a win-win-win for advertisers, social media networks, the government, and any business which does data collections.
It fucks over everyone else.
Chat, I’m not going to lie to you. This is an extremely good conspiracy schizo theory and I unironically believe it.
Remember, fellow kids. It’s not a conspiracy if it’s real. 😅😬
it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you
Actually, conspiracies are definitely real. Theories being randomly generated by everyone, especially to poison the well, has caused the term to become derogatory in nature, and I say this as a huge fan of Knowledge Fight, which objectively looks at Info Wars and similar people. Because conspiracy theories are often insane, literal conspiracies can occur and have some ability to hide in plain sight.
Theories being randomly generated by everyone
Also that:
A hypothesis is a specific, testable prediction or explanation for a phenomenon, while a theory is a well-established framework that explains a broad range of observations and is supported by extensive evidence. Theories are generally more comprehensive and have undergone more rigorous testing than hypotheses.
That is the formal definition in the sciences, yes. But colloquially, “theory” refers to a belief that has not been tested but for which it can be argued some evidence exists. (Not good evidence mind you, just “evidence.”)
I know, but it’s fun to point it out.
Also, one of the reasons why prefer not calling the stuff I make, “theories”, even though they are made to partially fit existing information.
Is chat in the room with us right now?
The difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth is 3 months. 😶
Not always true. Example, back during Covid I argued with plenty of anti-vax morons who swore that people who took the vaccine would drop dead within with blood clots in 3 months
This isn’t schizo.
The only fantastical element of this is that advertisers will not specifically target children with specific advertisements, which they have done, and will certainly keep doing.
Most people just don’t understand any of the tech involved in this, or the people involved with this… untill its too late to stop them.
Even though the ‘schizos’ have been trying to explain such things for decades now.
Oh well, I guess the Zoomers don’t remember a pre PATRIOT ACT United States.
Or maybe this is from a Millennial with Terminal Twitter Brain, which I guess we are calling ‘main character syndrome’ these days.
I can fix that fantastical part: advertisers can now claim any targeting of children is inadvertent because they know they’re not supposed to do that and they have the age verification. So it must have been someone spoofing the system.
I mean, Facebook and Tiktok have literally both studied, in extensive detail, how to advertise to children, the mental effects their platforms have on children, and of course how to leverage both of those things together.
This is public knowledge, they’ve been in court over it.
Facebook is massively coddling Trumps balls, and Tiktok is basically literally owned by him/his cronies.
They do not even need to pretend that any laws apply to them.
Honestly i would go a step back and a step further. Advertising to children is still profitable at least outside the eu and age checks generate friction in using the platforms witch would probably lead to them losing some casual users. I think the reason they and the governments want the IDs is control. They now with 98% certainty who you are. Data brokers, “law enforcement”, advertisers can follow you all over the internet and cross reference you. I know that’s already been done but you only have certainty in maybe 50% percent or so idk. A international place where people are somewhat private is a great win for democracy if used right.
Also, the onus is on the operating system and software developers now to protect minors from “harmful content”. It is no longer the content provider’s fault if they generate child pornography.
