      Yes, back in my day, it was slang for paging someone, similar to “ring me” for calling.

      It’s also a reference to the show. Buffy wanted to go on a date and Giles was all “but epic responsibility!” and she convinced him she can do both and said “if the apocalypse comes, beep me.

        I’m currently watching buffy with my wife in tandem with Angel i don’t recall that happening, though we watch it after work after our son gets to bed so I often fall asleep and miss am episode here and there

          It was in a very fall-asleep-worthy episode (1x05 Never Kill a Boy on the First Date).

          Warning! season 1 spoilers that don’t matter at all for any plot arcs:

          Buffy goes on a date with Owen, then breaks up with him because her life is too dangerous. The “anointed one” is revealed to be a creepy (but awesome) vampire kid. End of episode.
