This is a pretty broad spectrum of the cabinet! The article says that Shabana Mahmood, Ed Miliband and Lucy Powell also spoke up, with Lammy somewhat backing them.
Personally, I don’t know when they’re going to just bite the bullet and put taxes up, but they should really do it sooner rather than later.
It baffles me that Starmer would rather further push into poverty some of the poorest and most marginalised people in the UK, than slightly increase wealth tax on the uber wealthy or add a small fee for large stock trades or something.
Starmer is more aligned with Trump than he is with the sick and disabled. I think once you get this paradigm down, nothing about what he does is baffling.
Those vulnerable are easy victims.
Where as the wealthy can and will fight back.

You’re right, they’re only doing it because of the message it sends. Starmer is pandering to potential reform voters. Reform voters are assumed to be intolerant in every way and the Tory scapegoating of the unemployed and disabled is still very much present amongst the callous.
I’m not sure why people don’t realise or speak about how the after effects of covid have made more people disabled or caused the health of the already disabled to worsen. They seem to be pushing the idea that people are just becoming more deceitful and lazy. Then there’s the reality that the NHS isn’t functioning well enough to help people who are ill to recover.
