you didn’t mention which lubricant, hope it wasn’t WD40, as people tend to grab it for these things, but the solution usually ends being temporary
To back you up, WD40 stands for Water Displacer, 40th try.
While it does kind of lubricate, that isn’t what it’s meant for, and the leftover ingredients will not keep it lubricated long and possibly cause more damage in the long run.
WD40 to help restore motion to the joint, then clean, then oil. Or just oil if it moves easily.
Though PB blaster always seems to work better to me. My applications are usually related to loosening stuck/rusted bolts and such.
PB blaster has too many volatiles for using indoor on things like hinges though.
Silicon or white lithium can work but be messy.
Graphite is best for hinges in my experience, I used to use this PTFE spray, but not sure how bad the PFAS exposure is from that. I only use it on the stubborn poorly designed hood latch on my Impreza now.
