French scientists have discovered a new blood type in a woman from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, France’s blood supply agency announced Friday.
The woman is the only known carrier of a new blood type, dubbed “Gwada negative,” the French Blood Establishment (EFS) said. The discovery was made 15 years after researchers received a blood sample from a patient who was undergoing routine tests ahead of a surgery.
…
This woman “is undoubtedly the only known case in the world,” he said, adding: “She is the only person in the world who is compatible with herself.”

Is that wording right? If I understand correctly it should say “is only compatible with herself”? or am I missing something?
Well its a negative type, so her blood can be given normally to others. If she was also o-, her blood could also be given to nearly the entire world, but the only blood she could get would be her own.
There’s lots of really rare blood types. Getting a new positive type basically means you can’t donate blood, getting a new negative type means you can’t get it from others, but could give it.
Splitting hairs a bit but if you want to be precise here you need two 'only’s in that sentence, ‘she is the only person whose only compatible donor is herself’.

Who’d have thought literacy is a valuable skill? My father, thank goodness.
