Four years of photos, videos, notes and thoughts, recordings of my now passed dad and grandma, etc.
Last photos of my father, actually. Fuck.
Probably accidentally dropped it in the bin when I used it as a webcam one time when I was as drunk as a skunk. Then had no use for it between that and taking the thrash out. And that was a few weeks ago, so even dumpster diving wouldn’t help now.
Hell, that guy looking for his bitcoin has waster years and millions.
I guess I can manage with photos other people have, I guess. I don’t really have people to look at the photos with, so guess it shouldn’t matter.
I’d be grateful if you could make me care less about my massive — but boring — fuckup.
Edit I’m trying to list things I probably won’t miss. My notes are mostly incoherent brain farts I have over and over. And recordings of officials won’t matter as no-one cares and they’re too late for justice. Photos and videos, really. But I have no-one to browse them with so whatever.

Hey, it’s better than voluntarily getting rid of something during a downsize and regretting it later (something I’ve done!).
Remember that the importance of those photos was in your love and memories of the people in them, not the actual pixels. That love and those memories are still there, even if the exact images are gone.
And ask yourself, are there any pictures on there that were so important my family members would have been angry at me about this? Because as painful as it is to lose something like that, they would almost certainly tell you they were just pictures and to not beat yourself up about it.
Be nice to yourself, especially if nobody else is.
I mean, that’s kinda my main issue. The photos were to remember. Now I might not, because a lot of the things there weren’t shared by anyone else.
Ugh.
I’ve had a rough couple of years and now it feels like they really got deleted as I can’t even remember what I’ve been doing and now I can’t see either.
Haven’t used social media or backups either. :F
Thanks still, though. My family members are dead or don’t really care about me anyway. Mostly it feels like honestly it was my personal history which is now lost because I can’t ask anyone as I was alone writing and thinking those things and now I’ve lost them.

I treat my phone and my laptops as just thin clients and store my stuff automatically on my server and my PC which has backup on to a NAS.
Wish I would’ve done that.
Any chance you might have used a temporary phone sometime in the middle there which got a synced copy of what was there at the time? Maybe a tablet that you logged in on your Android/iPhone account?
Nope. I didn’t sync shit, unfortunately.
I mean, i got all my contacts and whatnot, but notes and recordings photos videos were all too large for that.
Oh well perhaps it’s best not to remberer not the greatest of years.
I did use one phone at another point so that has some photos but no synced notes or anything.

You’re sorta one of the “[un]lucky 10000” today. Basically everyone is constantly on the edge of losing all their digital stuff and most people don’t even know it. You might take this as a warning to do better in the future, but even there most people would fail, I’d say.
There’s maybe 0.1% of people who know what “3-2-1” means who are only risking a week’s/month’s worth of stuff at all times.

I will definitely back up better in the future. But that also requires buying a bit of storage and I’m flat broke.
I know what 3-2-1 means and have copies of my photo folders, but like a fucking idiot I hadn’t backed up the phone in years. It’s 250gb so felt like a hassle.
Well, lesson learned. Only 4 years of personal history lost. Oh well. Some of it might be on whatsapp convos or smth
Apple gets shit on constantly but when I dropped my phone into a lake I bought a new one and was up and running with everything an hour later.
I have had auto backups on for Google photos for a long time and didn’t even realize it. One day my phone died and I was really sad because I had no many photos and videos on there for years and years.
Well I bought a new phone and was surprised and elated to see all my old photos appear on my new phone. After that I ended up paying extra for the additional cloud storage for my backups. 10001% worth it.
People shit on both Google and Apple, but this cloud backup shit is super convenient.
