What kind of animal non-uniform hemorrhaging stalactite plugs that in the top outlet? It will clearly block the bottom one with the cord positioning.

I’m p sure you have to install it so the ground pin is on the bottom so the electric outlet looks like two shocked (electrical pun) lil fellas :o :o, it’s def in the NEC somewhere about the lil jokers having to look spooked

Nowhere in the NEC is there a requirement to mount receptacles upside down (ground on top), but it is common practice in some locations/fields.

    I mean…yeah?

Like, I’ve gotten my fingers caught in the socket a few times, it’s certainly not comfortable but it never felt life-threatening. It’s less intense than touching an electric fence, but more intense than lickin a 9v. I’d never be afraid of it.

Imagine not being able to plug in your plug 180 degrees around. That alone disqualifies a socket as being the best.

Shuko is very good. While the UK plug is objectively better, it is too clunky, and the worst thing you can step on at night. Something like the psycho serial killer older brother of Lego blocks.

The superior plug is clearly having no standard and having like four different types all over your house. French plugs at the kitchen counter, German plugs in the living room, Italian plugs everywhere else, combo Italian/American (German/French compatible) plugs wherever the panel has been changed in the past ten years. I even fucking have one of these and I don’t know the fuck why. Never seen it used. Didn’t know what it was until I saw it on Wikipedia 20 years after noticing it as a curious child. Let’s not get started on the abhorrent copper phone lines or the coaxial TV connection that fried multiple TVs with lightning (we just unplug them during storms now).

Also, I bring half of my small appliances/electronics from the Gulf which uses UK plugs, so I also need a fuckload of adapters.

All ungrounded and haphazardly breakered for maximum flavor. Imagine having electrical standards laws in your country. This isn’t a nightmare at all. What are they gonna do, throw my adapter in jail? Subpoena the contacts for being at the wrong angle? /s

If your plugs are falling out of the sockets you need new receptacles.

Also, all new installs are on AFCI breakers

And I can honestly say im not particularly scared of 120V, it doesn’t hurt. But I respect it. Because im an electrician.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren’t unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don’t rush mod actions. If a case doesn’t need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
