Edmonton city council reluctantly voted to continue a public hearing next week — their vacation period — after Friday evening’s debate led to swears being thrown.

The marathon meetings have stretched all week, as council reviews its zoning bylaw one year after a major overhaul.

On Friday, councillors spoke about work-life balance, with some saying they would be on vacation without internet next week. Then, a heated exchange occurred, after Ward Sspomitapi Coun. Jo-Anne Wright commented about how experienced councillors might have expected the meeting eating into their vacation time.

“From what I understand… this is a normal course of business with things ramping up, and I would think that maybe the incumbents would be aware of that,” Wright said.

Ward sipiwiyiniwak Coun. Sarah Hamilton, who said she’d be away and unable to attend the meeting, swore in her response.

“That was so f–king rude. F–k you, Jo-Anne Wright. F–k you,” she said.

The closest I ever got was saying something like that at customs. The Border guard asked me “Why are you coming to the US?” and it was 3 years into Trump’s first term and all I could think of was “Because they pay me to.” He laughed and waved me through.

More roads equal easier commute which means more people buy cars and move out of the city. They should be focusing on lowering housing costs in the city and investing in public transit.

Good. One of the only reasons left to keep the US dollar as the standard currency is the bases they have stationed around the world. If they shut them down, countries will get to move to something else. Hopefully not the yen.

This may be horrible advise but they are doing this because they can get away with it. You back down everytime they escalate things and they know it. They are afraid of consequences because they stoped the floor vibrator incase they got sued or the police came just not from you.

You need to stop backing down record the noises, get security cameras that record 24/7 if you can and get evidence to give to the landlord or the police.

Better yet get a family member or a friend who doesn’t mind conflict to hang out for a few nights a week and have them go and talk to them whenever they pull this bs. After a few times they will back off. It’s better to do this yourself but it sounds like you need to work on your confidence before you can do this yourself.

Good idea but maybe spend money on an influencer to get the messeage out to people as well.
