Yeah, it’s amazing!

Yeah, it’s amazing!

I see nothing wrong with that.
I just think it’s fair to say the way they ask for donations is at least a little bit disingenuous.

It’s not that simple and transparent actually. Wikipedia doesn’t really need those donations to operate. They have money reserves for many years of expenses. I don’t have a great source right now but this article looks decent. I didn’t read the whole thing though.

For me it makes the text MUCH harder to read. Basically, instead of just quickly “scanning” the text I need to stop and consciously decipher words with this character.
When I read words I know I don’t read them letter by letter, I just recognize the entire “shape” instantly. The thorn throws this mechanism off completely for me.

I don’t like calling them an iditot just because of that but I have to admit I find this incredibly annoying.

I would say it does not. Well, I guess it depends on what you watch. The stuff I subscribe is nothing like TV.
Ah, yes, of course, because kids are usually bullied for a good reason.
No one hangs out with the mean kids and the nice and sensitive ones are universally liked. What a beautiful world we live in.
Yeah, it’s both funny and terrifying how cubicles were a symbol of a dystopia, and now, with open space offices, people would kill for the cubicles.
curl is obviously fantastic but for more complex ad-hoc requests I usually prefer httpie.

Most ebooks I bought recently come with a warning that the buyer’s data is embedded in the file to deter from sharing it online. TBF it cannot be hard to remove it but I didn’t bother to check how it’s implemented.

As a dev, I can feel how much easier to work with the codebase must be after migrating from scattered raw SQL queries to ORM. In my job I have a project with a similar problem and the transition is slowly going on for years at this point, still not close to being finished.
Yeah, I get what you mean about proportions and I agree with everything you say. I just didn’t do a very good job of precisely explaining my thoughts in the original comment.
I have zero doubts about surveillance cameras being able to estimate person’s height.
Obviously, you can use statistics to get a very close approximation. What I meant is that you can’t calculate her height using purely geometry because you don’t see her whole body. And the 1% error margin suggests a very precise calculation, not a statistical approximation.
You assume standard human anatomical proportions
If you do that, then it’s pretty much just guessing, isn’t it? You could also just look up an average height for a woman in her country and (by definition) you would have a big chance of not being too far off. And you’re definitely not getting within 1% error margin with that method.
It’s the opposite for me.
Right, I guess it’s possible. No idea because I haven’t visited Xitter in years.

I had septoplasty 3 years ago and they gave me only local anesthesia - meaning I was conscious during the procedure. Well, they also gave me something which made me pretty high to the point that I was actually chatting with the surgeon during the procedure. I know this sounds bad but it was quite okay actually. The staff were all very nice, they talked to me explaining what’s happening the entire time which was very calming and creating trust. I didn’t feel any pain, just… touch / pressure I guess?
After the procedure they stuffed my nose with tampons made of gauze wrapped in some kind of rubber. I had to keep this for 2 days. This was the worst part because I had to breathe through my mouth and also they stuffed it really deep and tight which made it pretty uncomfortable. I just read books and watched YouTube the whole time to distract myself. It was not fun but definitely manageable.
After they took out the tampons I was released to home and I got 2 weeks of sick leave. Honestly, I would do it again just for those 2 weeks.
I say, don’t overthink it. If you expect pain, you will probably feel it. Try to trust the doctors and the process. They really know what they’re doing.
How could you calculate her height from the photo without her whole body being visible? You can’t just “scale” it using the phone as a reference because there is no measurement to scale. Am I missing something or is this bullshit?
Exposing services to the internet is one thing. The other thing is that without really solid backup strategy you can just lose your files. Both concerns grow even bigger if you’re dealing with not just your own data but also your family’s or friends’. It’s a real responsibility.
I think it would be great if more people got into self-hosting but you really need to learn some stuff before jumping in. A single mistake can cost you a lot.
