I don’t know how effective it is but I use adguard for blocking ads and trackers. It uses a vpn to route traffic through. You can firewall apps so I have all Google apps blocked through the firewall. I’m not sure if this will fully stop Google but I can see that it frequently blocks requests from Google play services. You could also use ADB or canta to remove system apps that you don’t want

Turns out I just didn’t have the right firmware for my setup. I am running emulators from batocera Linux and I needed 18.1.0. All works fine now 😁

I use tor and I haven’t found it to be annoyingly slow. It’s not fast but you can manage with it for most things

Its the difference between using something designed to be a good product vs something that is designed to squeeze as much out of you as possible
