Kinda yeah, but I was still able to buy it with only £10k down, my mortgage is only £350/month, and I’ve repainted the place to suit my taste and cut out a wall to make space for a washing machine (I put a dishwasher in the kitchen instead). Not saying it’s for everyone, but it worked for me 🤷

There are still cheap places to live all over England and Scotland - I bought a 1 bedroom flat with small garden for £90k in Peterborough (a smaller city about an hour north of London) 3 years ago, and the garden has enough space for a few raised beds with vegetables in them

I agree and that rise saddens me, but in Europe, I still generally have confidence that the majority of countries’ populations respect general decency, human rights and lack of corruption enough to keep the hate and greed mostly at bay. In the US, it’s now long past hope - the corruption runs so deep, so broadly that it’s taken over, and that means the country is doomed to be somewhere I never wanna live.

There isn’t even “justice” for cis white men though - justice in the USA barely even exists any more. The greed and corruption runs so deep that the supreme court are all bribed or heavily biased, so I have no confidence whatsoever in the judicial system.

In Scotland, doctors offices and hospitals don’t even have cash registers cos money is not something the citizens ever have to think about when it comes to healthcare, I feel sorry for anyone who has to exist in the US where money and healthcare are tied together

I’m from Scotland and here, every time a pregnant person is registered with the NHS (we have universal free healthcare, which is normal in Europe, so this is pretty much every pregnant person), they’re automatically enrolled for a baby box to be mailed to their home a couple of weeks before the baby’s due date.

The baby box includes a ton of stuff designed to help parents take care of a baby in their first few years, including the box itself doubling as a cot. I’m not supporting brave here, but do you have any evidence that the open source Chromium browser sends data to Google in any situation? The way I see it, Chromium is like android AOSP without Google apps, less functional but generally de-googled.

I can’t say I’ve reviewed every line of code in that huge project, but I’d be shocked if the rest of the open source community working on Chromium was willing to have tracking code in it or anything else which phones home to Google, even if the majority of the developers working on the open source project are Google engineers.

Ultimately, both Brave and Firefox are open source, so you can look through the code and verify for yourself whether either browser are doing something unethical.

This ungoogled-chromoim project is probably worth checking out, they maintain a patch set which explicitly removes the only things in chromium which send data to Google, which is pretty much just the web services for search bar autocomplete and DNS pre-fetching etc.
