  • An interesting concept I haven’t thought about. I can’t imagine what it’s like to not have an auditory representation of the words I’m reading. Maybe the idea of the article is salvageable if you consider “matching characters” to the elements of language, like matching the letters u and n to the idea of “negation”. Though I don’t know how that would hold up when words aren’t made up of individual, meaningful constituents.

I can’t understand how this is still a thing. Everybody, and I mean literally everybody, even subsaharan illiterates have had to fill out a form where the lines are 3mm apart and 8mm wide. And still, when it’s time to design a form themselves, they think putting down a few underscores in font size 3 1/4 is enough.

    AAAAAHHH!!!

Everyone learns different definitions based on their education system’s world view, leading to a number of continents somewhere between 3 and 20. It turns out that nature doesn’t care for humans’ desire to put everything into neat, well-defined little boxes.

  • I like to laugh at dumb people as much as the next one. But on a more serious note:

Brains forget shit. And my unsubstantiated opinion is that that is what makes humans so great. We can learn easily, but on the flipside, anything that isn’t practiced regularly goes down the drain. Calculating things in your head is one of those things you just don’t practice regularly (and why would you?) So draw out your calculator for things like the square root of 1337 and keep your precious cerebral resources for shit that matters, like making furry porn.
