Marie Antoinette’s gender has nothing to do with her position in pop culture as the poster child of the casual detachment from reality that wealth brings (i.e. “Let them eat cake”). Given that this situation is over the expiration of food benefits, THAT is why Trump is being compared to Antoinette (and also why the comparison point is her, and not King Louis, for example).
