It’s an exaggerated story to make it “worthwhile” to post to social media. Which do you think is more likely? A small lie, or an ENTIRE school dressed wrong for one sex, and yet this sole kid is a plague doctor? No female knights? People are way to gullible these days.
They’re kids, not historians. Medieval means knights and princesses to them. Which means Disney princesses. Let them have fun.

Many of the Disney stories have been around in medieval Europe as folklore, so it’s not as much of a stretch as you suggest here
