Tudor? It still happens now. The family my parents bought their house from? Big traditional Mormon family. The family had 6 boys and one girl. One of the older brothers was married and unfortunately died young. His younger brother married his widow. This was in the US in the 1990s. A younger brother marrying the widow of an older brother is an ancient tradition. See Levirate marriage.

Isn’t it “'till death do us part”? (until 1 minute ago, I always thought it was apart lol)

You snooze, you lose man. Shouldn’t have died.

If you ever listen to Vance’s rhetoric, it’s white nationalist coded, I’m actually surprised he hasn’t dropped a “blood and soil” reference yet. His team probably looked at some opinion polls of the white Christian nationalists and decided he needs to dump the brown wife and kids to position himself as their leader.

I mean it’s also a picture of the vice president of the United States motor-boating the widow of a prominent political figure while she stands on his coffin which — while we do live in a time of insane things happening in the American political landscape — really probably didn’t happen.

How do you people function on a day-to-day basis?

Yes, this is a totally real photo. Erika Kirk stood on her husband’s casket getting motorboated by the vice president of the US while their shadows merged into one. This is definitely an event that would absolutely happen.

/s because obviously you need it.

Have you been paying attention to reality lately? Weirder shit happens every day.

After posting the comment, I looked at the pic again and yeah it looked odd, but I wasn’t going to delete my comment over it.

Also, if the lighting was at an angle, the shadows could have combined like that. It was the jumbled up text in the background that raised my eyebrow.

There are some people on this platform that absolutely cannot pick satire to save their own lives, and there are some who are just plain stupid.

The person you replied to is likely both.

I detest these people and I understand calling out their hypocrisy. Is there anything to be said for not policing how a woman is supposed to grieve publicly though? There’s plenty wrong about the shameless exploitation of Kirk’s death, but something about the current narrative feels gross. Stooping to their level? I mean yeah, maybe you could infer their relationship was shallow and transactional, but like, is this really a gotcha moment that we care about?

In principle, i agree with you.

You already feel tbe “but…” coming in.

But these people relish in hatred. If (more to the point, when) roles are reversed, this is what they do and they enjoy doing it. They laugh about the suffering of others, they make fun of the suffering of others.

I don’t know this woman at all, I don’t know her name, I don’t know her views, thoughts, politics, or even what suffering she’s going through

However, she is not only a Christian Republican tradwife, she is the Christian Republican tradwife of one of the lowest, most hateful figures out there. I think it’s very fair to assume she is a horrible hateful person because of course she is: she is a Christian Republican. And the wife of one of the more hateful speakers out there.

I feel no pity for this woman, I do not believe anyone should have mercy for her, she wouldn’t have it for us.

Yeah I get you, I think my discomfort is more of a general thing than this particular situation. I think it’s like making fun of someone’s physical features when someone nice may also have those features. Or like an effeminate male homophobe deserves to be mocked but you risk repeating things people who’ve been bullied for being effeminate have been hurt by. Maybe not a hill to die on but I try to avoid it myself.

When they go low, we go high didn’t work so… Yeah it might be time to stoop to their level. Unless there’s a better idea, that isn’t taking the high road cause that doesn’t work anymore.

Is it wrong of me to feel like as a Christian, my faith has been shaky for years but Kirk’s death actually strengthened it? Like I believed God actually, periodically, smites the wicked?

Wish there was something positive I could say. Until recently I thought a good career, income, and staying put together would help me. But the only people interested are the one-night types and yeah…absolutely-fucking-lutely not.

yeah for me, my issue is i have BPD, so im on disability, after being kicked out by my ex, having to live with my parents until magically the rental market goes down, and also not being allowed to drive (also of course not being able to afford it). i literally check off no boxes other than my personality of being a nice person and can be social in the right situations
