We have Nazis and Nazi-lite -> MAGA

We have brown shirts -> ICE.

We are blaming immigrants and believing white people are somehow superior.

Now we just invaded a country, and say we will invade others.

What’s happening here… It feels strange. Is anyone else seeing this?

    No you’re America.

The Germans in 1940 didn’t have the lens of history to view the events through, they couldn’t necessarily have predicted the path they were on.

America in 2026? Everyone with working senses warned you loud and clear for years that this is exactly what happens if he ended up in the white house again instead of prison.

    Most of you didn’t listen.

The fascists even published the plan in black and white before the election

It was bafflingly also largely dismissed

America is much worse now because you all know where this train ends and you’re all letting the driver get on with it

Come now, let’s not pretend that Hitler and the Nazis invented authoritarianism. Saying they didn’t have the lens or history to learn from is a little dismissive of two thousands years of written history.

Especially when it was publicly affirmed that they took their inspiration, in part, from the genocidal policies the US employed to destroy the indigenous people here. (And, I’d add, if you’re not aware of just how euphemistic the term ‘reservation’ is, you should read up on how the US destroyed the indigenous people.)

Fair observation, but conversely, this particular kind of populism very much started with the 20th century fascists, it’s uncanny how similarly it’s going now.

Especially in terms of what people would be taught and expected to know about; I think you’d struggle to find anyone in the developed world who doesn’t know at least the basics about WW2.

    Is anyone else seeing this?

Everyone with any kind of voice has been screaming at the top of their lungs that this was happening ever since the aftermath of 9/11. Maybe earlier.

Same as with Hitler though, did you know he was imprisoned for an attempted coup in 1920s? That’s where he wrote “Mein Kampf”. In which he clearly stated what his intentions were.

But yes, other people are seeing it, and now you are too. Idk if that’s exactly a “congratulations” moment, but I’m glad you can see the parallels.

Of course you will see similarities, we’ve been calling opponents “Nazis” for a long time, it’s an American tradition.

If you mean a country that will attack many other countries in wars of conquest? We have a long history of that, depending on what you consider to qualify as conquest.

If you mean like forces aligning for world war with USA as the belligerent aggressor, taking on any and all challengers? It sure is looking like this is possible. US government seems pretty hungry for resources and lot more than usual. Our greed is growing exponentially.

Just my opinion but I am not an expert.

I think many of those in power (politicians + ultra-wealthy) are trying to purposely mirror the Nazis; using similar rhetoric and actions. They view those tactics as successful to achieving their goals (trying to suck up all the world’s wealth and power).

Something to consider: Hitler and Mussolini actually made life better for the average German and Italian citizen while they were brutally suppressing the out-groups they had decided to attack. Unless your net worth is in the tens of millions.m, Trump hasn’t done shit for you. That could help in the medium future.

    What’s happening here…

9/11 was the catalyst that broke America, no introspection about it being blowback* , just pants on head insane. The US slid down thay slippery slope and here we are

*See Chalmers Johnson’s book Blowback that came out long beofre 9/11 saying eventually there would be consequences for the US constantly interfering.

      They didn’t really raise them…

Like, boomers didn’t become boomers out of nowhere. The ones who had fathers who fought nazis, likely didn’t have a father come back from the war. And when they did it was a vet (justifiably) shell shocked with zero access to anything resembling mental healthcare.

Good and bad generations are created by the ones before them. We need to learn this lesson so we can stop having little shits running around screeching trump slogans in 6th grade.

Raising competent generations takes effort, or else no one would be the effort in.

We didn’t put the effort in as a society with Gen alpha, now they’re all little shits and if we don’t fix them we’re gonna have to live with them the rest of our lives.

You’re not wrong. But make no mistake, what is happening now mostly began and (hopefully) ends with the Boomer generation. They have failed the United States in so very many ways. They constantly blame others for their own failings. They can’t even define the word “introspection.” They would rather watch the world burn than let anyone, who they are not directly related to, prosper.

Like most people who follow blatant nonsense, younger generations in the US were indoctrinated from birth into the backwards thinking that leads to MAGA even becoming a thing. It’s no different than being indoctrinated into religion. It’s brainwashing disguised as child rearing.

Not all Boomers are this way. But in my admittedly small sample size, the vast majority that I’ve ever met, including those in my own family, are. And the craziest thing of it all – they think they’re right and righteous. And that’s what makes them dangerous.
