Hey!

I am trying to switch away from my Samsung Calendar (not because of Samsung as much as because I can practically only synch it with the Google Calendar).

Any recommendations?

I am working now with Tuta Calendar, but it lacks some features. For example, I cannot customize the time of the reminder (there are only five options to choose from). Also, it is not too easy to copy the events, which makes putting the same things manually every week sluggish.

Or maybe somebody knows how to tweak Samsung calendar to accept calendar synch with an open-source protocol?

I’d love a solid answer here. I had just used google because of work, but they switched to msoft. Now outlook is awful and a personal gmail does not check in enough with outlook to be useful (updates once per day)

There isn’t one, I’m afraid. I have been using separate calendars/contacts for years. It is very minimalistic. On the other hand, have a better life/work balance.

Check out this thread and the analogous thread on !buyfromeu@feddit.org. In brief, I decided on DAVx5 for synchronization, Nextcloud for storage, and Etar. I also downloaded Thunderbird to have a desktop synch. It took me longer to figure out which apps to use based on all the comments + my subscriptions than to set it up.

If you don’t have Nextcloud, you can easily just make an account with them, and get much more than enough storage for a calendar.

Etar is the best calendar app out there, in my experience. And as others have said DAVx5 is the way to go for calendar synchronisation.

This is the setup I ended up using back when I was on stock Android, and it seems to be the default now that I’m on /e/. Has worked well for me at least for a few years.
