We finally made it through the long winter and NWSL is back this weekend, baby! It kicks off Friday with Portland Thorns vs Washington Spirit and my favorite team, the Seattle Reign have their first game against the Orlando Pride on Sunday afternoon and I could not be more excited to watch some women’s soccer 😊
I installed Linux Mint and I’m having fun with some extremely cheap RISC-V microcontrollers (ch32v003) using the open source toolchain of ch32fun. Having a blast!
What are you doing with the microcontrollers? Anything interesting?
So far I’m just learning to code harder in C getting into the nitty-gritty of the hardware. A simple but challenging enough project is a mini LED light that I can tie to my thumb in order to use my eBook better. Regulable light intensity through PWM, low-power mode for low power consumption when off, interrupts from button to power-up… Quite a few different peripherals to touch!
Last night I passed 120,000 words on my first draft.
I’ve been trying to write a book for close to three decades. Sometimes I would right 10,000 words and give up, sometimes I’d give up after a single paragraph. But for some reason, this time I’ve stuck with it.
Still a bit of work to do to finish it up, and it’s still the first draft, but I’ve never been so close to achieving my lifelong ambition.
I stood up an old laptop on the windowsill and set up a video broadcasting website for it. Should handle around 50 or 75 concurrent stream watchers, I guesstimate. It was a fun DIY/learning project for me.
I’m going to a Puzzled Pint night this Tuesday. It’s a thing where you meet up with your friends at a bar and compete against other teams to solve fun puzzles.
Daylight savings just happened where I live, so now I have an extra hour of daylight to enjoy the afternoons outside. Plus the weather is beautiful where I live, so I’m looking forward to laying in a hammock sometime soon.
We can expect that all around the world, billions of people are going to work together to maintain a standard of living for everyone that would have been unthinkable 100 years ago. On the timescale of decades, this week will have less hunger, less shivering, less thirst, less disease, and less violence than what was the norm in human history.
Tomorrow I’ll meet some friends to play Doppelkopf (german card game for four players) and on Thursday I will visit the movie theatre to watch Marty Supreme.
