It’s not going to make you safer. Best you can hope for is to take some of the motherfuckers with you when they come for you.

That is literally the idea, nobody expects to be able to stand up to the US military if they get deployed against us, but it will absolutely keep that worst-case from happening if the people leading that military realize that every house, every door they kick down, will have a shotgun pointed at the door.

As long as they know that a militarization of our domestic society will lead to a door-to-door meat grinder, they won’t commit to that approach.

There’s a lot more of us than there are of them.

If even 10% of us take one of them down with us, they’ll run out of door-kickers very quickly.

(Even more so because a lot of their door-kickers are cowards and would quickly abandon the fight if they thought they were actually in danger.)

Let’s not forget that we didn’t get any form of gun control in the US until the Black Panthers started walking around with guns. They absolutely do NOT want minority groups armed. If a racist, bigoted group doesn’t want you to have a thing… you should probably consider having that thing.

I mean, they are building giant concentration camps across the USA right now.

I get called a lot of names on reddit, it only empowers me and tells me I’m doing something right. This site is filled with the most hand-wringing, roleplaying, sheltered, naive segment of performative leftists and literal children out of all the content aggregation forums I have accounts on.

They also hate being told that good outcomes are still possible with work, effort and… the most dreaded, scaaary word of all, socialization. This is one of those tumblr-spheres of kids who think their asocial depressive episodes are an identity and it has gotten me in more than a few scuffles. They sure don’t seem to have problems confronting strangers when their comfort-patterns are on the line.

Good post. You won points by being both self-described anarchist AND realistic about what’s really happening in the world.

I always say that about my belief in a borderless world or a world where socialism is the peak-goal for any system so that every person has equal opportunity. I know they’re pure fantasy in the world we live in now, but I still hold those things up as values, this helps me communicate consistently about what I want for the world, even if it means achieving only small parts at a time. That’s fine, just so long as I am part of that message that says “I want this better world.”

I hope all of them, so they see that the overwhelming leftist/progressive response to a naive meme is pushing back and everyone uniting behind the idea that forcefully removing opposition will be a house-to-house bloodbath as we all have our guns pointed at the door. I will get on the roof with a sign for their fukkin satellites to see.

  • Really a question of whether you still trust the state apparatus to protect you and your loved ones from physical violence. For the right, the need to protect themselves was never anything but a bogeyman dreamt up by gun manufacturers and racist opportunists. The calculus may well differ for other folks given the current state of things and the lessons one might draw from history.

      Indeed.

I was going to say that in a country where the rule of law is practised I wouldn’t feel inclined to own a firearm and I would argue no one else should.

On the other hand, watching how the US is on cusps of going full fascist, rounding up leftists, socialists, LGBTQ and people of all ethnicities, well fuck I would be arming the fuck up. I would be going full prepper. Shit I would be digging going full VC and digging tunnels in my back yard.

I remember when the world entered the information age and wars started being fought by information instead of bullets but people still want you to believe gun ownership is going to keep you safe somehow against misinformation in the information age we now live in

You can’t shoot misinformation, but if they ever decide you commenting on Lemmy is evidence of being part of a terrorist cell (and they might) you will only benefit from enough of us declaring we have our shotguns pointed at the front door. (Misinformation isn’t going to break down your door, it will be people in masks.)

Time to get a lot harder and less cynical about protecting yourselves and your communities.

This meme assumes liberals, or the left broadly construed, view guns in the same way.

Conservatives want to bring their AR-15 into Burger King, because they view guns as a sort of magic totem of protection.

Of the left gun owners I know, liberals, Anarchists, Marxists, etc. They have a far more grounded view of guns, and see them much more for the tool that they are.

Well history says the states started to have more gun laws after the black panthers, so maybe this is the way to get gun control in pacific non violent way.

I’ve always been of the belief that more guns cause more death, and I still hold that belief.

However, the last decade has proven to me that this country is far too stupid to maintain a democracy so, unfortunately, the guns are necessary, because things are about to get a whole lot sketchier in this nation. And as things degrade, I need protection, particularly from low IQ aggressive conservatives.

      Welcome aboard.

I mean, yah it’s unstable now and scary and we are seeing things happening we never thought we’d see on US soil… and this is just the start. Even if the political environment changes around midterms and 2028, we still have a whole world that is crumbling from forces of unfettered capitalism and authoritarianism and a dumbed-down populace.

We are going to have climate problems that will be very severe, we are going to large numbers of people displaced and moving around, and nothing stokes violence and new regimes like displaced populations, and we have AI rising as a weapon that will make nukes look quaint, so we should all hunker down for whatever is coming next and take every possible precaution.

I don’t think ‘feeling safe’ is the goal so much as the understanding that the Nazis are making a huge comeback, and that votes and protest signs don’t generally do a great job of killing Nazis.

Like, if you’re going down anyway, might as well bag a few Nazis on your way out; or maybe you see some Nazis harrassing someone and you’re a safe distance away with a rifle.

So… you could be part of solving a gigantic problem, but it will 100% not make you safe. To the contrary, it’ll make you a target.

I don’t know. MAGA Marty is probably not to worried about a tyrannical government kicking in their door.
