Senate Democrats on Thursday defeated a motion to proceed to a House-passed bill to reopen the Department of Homeland Security and end the 27-day shutdown that has hampered the functions of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other critical agencies.

The motion failed by a vote of 51 to 46. Centrist Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.) was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans to advance the funding bill. It needed 60 votes to advance.

I love how we started a war while “homeland security” has been shut down
I wrote to my Democratic Senator to ask that DHS stay shut down until the ICE murders are arraigned, at minimum. I suggest that everybody contact theirs. Keep the pressure on.

Democrats voted against the Homeland Security appropriations bill because it includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), two agencies they say need reforms after immigration agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis.
“We all know that we do not have agreement on how to deal with ICE. We know very simply that Democrats just want ICE to behave like any police department in America and use warrants and not wear masks,” Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) said before the vote.
Republicans trying to spin, but Democrats are standing up against ICE murdering citizens.
So this is a fucking thing to note, all you “Dems do nothing” people.

Give them another month. They’ll fold and give ICE 100 billion dollars for defensive extermination camps and a vote to ban ICE from wearing masks except when they really want to.

If the democratic party turned into a useful vehicle for enacting positive social change, then it would be a useful vehicle for enacting positive social change.
That doesn’t mean I won’t continue to organize outside the party and criticize any failure, since its still a fundamentally pro-capital party and will revert back to its nature when the threat diminishes.

Nothing will ever be enough for some people. People expect the party with zero power to pull votes out their asses.
I don’t care about votes, they need to be doing everything possible whether its legal or in line with decorum or not. If they would start playing dirty to fuck the fascists over we’d be in much better shape.
It would give the fascists an excuse to remove them from power. You want a violent revolution, it’s not going to come from legally elected officials.

It is time to disband ICE and TSA. The Coast Guard should be moved back to the military.
Honestly, the entirety of DHS can go away and we can move any useful agencies to more appropriate locations. Just the name alone is so cringe it is crazy.
Roll the useful bits (i.e. everything related to disaster response and preparation) back into FEMA.
