I thought I would join a group, fight back, there is no way people would let it happen that easily. But the thing that gets me the most? The complacency, even collaboration, by people who claimed to be the most against it.
It is absolutely shocking how all of the people that claim kids getting shot is the cost of doin business because they need guns to fight tyranny end up being in favor of tyranny.
It’s like they’re morons.
These are people of the land.
The common clay.

And it feels like that vitriol is contagious; I’m beginning to enjoy the pain of contemporary fascism-enablers. Like at c/LeopardsAteMyFace for instance.
Like those who say by their actions and non-actions:
“I’m gonna empower these people by not voting, I’m gonna let them have their president that appeals directly to the very worst of their instincts and willful, stubborn ignorance. I am a superior, innocent and precious flower!”
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
Honestly I kind of get it. Most people are just exhausted trying to get by and don’t have the time or energy to do anything even if they wanted to. The you have to organize, plan events, recruit, you basically have to dedicate your life
This right there is one of the most glaring parallels to the 1930s.
Yeah, except Germany at least had the excuse of years of economic turmoil due to having to pay reparations from WWI. Americans are living in the most prosperous country in the world.
Capitalism working as designed
Most people thought It Can’t Happen Here. They were very wrong.
And to them it’s still not happening

I fled with my family because they wanna hurt my trans sister? I think im doing pretty good.
Sending love to you and yours, stay safe friend
I genuinely feel that until the left gets a charismatic vocal leader that a large percentage of people want to support nothing will happen on a large organized way. There will probably be more individuals that will show there frustration in violent ways but nothing that will really make a significant change to the path we are on. And actually the violence will just strengthen the right’s justification to crackdown more on “violent left” and depending on who the victims of this violence is against could drive more people to agree with them.
until the left gets a charismatic vocal leader
So we’re still in a medieval swamp, then, because a sizable chunk of the population is yearning for a king-like figure of their own, with a magic political wand, they want to be mesmerized and inspired all day every day, it’s like magic!
When what a society really chooses in an election is either boring government nerds performing the highly complex task of running a government; or conmen sucking society dry while stoking political theater with their red meat puppets on the propaganda front, to keep the people distracted, to whom an ignorant uneducated population is a huge political advantage.
Then to clean up the ungodly mess the conmen leave behind is a monumental task, things are much quicker to get broken by looting than to get fixed and working properly again.
I really, really thought the younger generation understood this difference, I really hoped that they knew better. Not anymore. They are just as dumb and lazy and self-centered as the boomers they hate.
“You CAN get the inspiring political figure you wish for.”
“Yeah? How?”
“You have to nurture starting with local School Board and City Council elections on up, you have to vote for the type of candidate you want across the country, make it a ground swell.”
“Aaargh BORING! bOtH pArTiEs ArE tHe SaMe LoL aMiRiTe!”The dumb and lazy are easy to manipulate with negative propaganda, all you have to do is give them excuses to NOT do what they already didn’t want to drag their dumb and lazy asses out of the couch for already, anyway.
So we’re still in a medieval swamp
We might be. But right now the left is just floundering in the political winds leaderless and it shows.
- Obama was the last charismatic leader and many people were disappointed with his tenure.
- Biden just disappeared after he got into office
- Pelosi and Schumer are both are extremely weak when it comes to getting the voting base excited.
Who else is there? Bernie? He is good, had the governance nerd about him and he could connect to a disillusioned base but he is old
AOC? Maybe.
I’m sure there are others that can do this and I agree with you that they need to be nurtured from local politics. I also believe that people on the left need to understand that no leader will be their type of perfect and be okay with that.
You mean JFK?
Maybe a bit JFK, a bit Bernie but younger, and bit of the angry Anthony Weiner …
You’ve also been doing it for like the last 10 - 20 years.
Honestly, don’t know what to do…
unionize in an antifascist and international organization ?
Which one do you suggest?
Which on I don’t see how social revolution could not turn wrong without a being run directly by the workers. So I would recommend self-managed unions, such as those taking part in the International Confederation of Labor (ICL).
Their is other international organization of unions, but their are more a coordination than an international (for example Labor Solidarity. I would like to give other options, but as far as I know, they do not exist anymore.
What’s up with the title?
Clock, wasting time, social media, what many are doing right now.; I dunno gotta write somethin’.
I’m with you on the distrust and avoidance of social media as a tool of distraction and mass manipulation. I’m not a pessimist, but I’m honestly unsure of what we could do without risking a criminal record.
Between a SCOTUS that granted presidential immunity, a party-loyal Congress, and a President that has already used militarized force against protestors, what do you propose people do to fight the rise of fascism in the US?
Well, it sounds like you are at the point where partisan fighting might start to break out.
Honestly though, you need to organize. And fast.
People who aren’t caregivers can afford riskier actions. Ask what people need, and get it to them. Eventually you’ll connect with other groups that will get you in truly secure platforms like Signal to organize. That started with Roe V Wade being overturned.
For people with families, you keep quiet about specifics, you only organize on platforms like Signal, and you do what you know you can do. It’s all a risk, but if you can get money to the people above you provide that. Supplies? Provide that. Transportation? There you go. Jobs to the persecuted? Very likely to be helpful (see Schindler’s list). Doctor? You run underground care at night. Programmer? You work on tools like Signal to help efforts. Chemists, engineers, etc? You work on tiny scales to develop tools to counter the fascist military forces.
Theres something we can all do. And the size doesn’t matter, as long as we do it.

Why do you write like you’re about to enter a poetry slam?
Only thing I slam is pogs.
You’re an enigma.

Shitposting on lemmy because I’m not brave enough to protest (or do a Luigi) 😓
Just trying not to spiral into depression too hard by distracting myself with video games. And also trying to maintain my daily things. And do my appointments and chores and things like I’m supposed to.
I wonder what the closest thing to a video game was a century ago.
Probably card/dice games with some gambling and alcohol on the side.
Also it just occurred to me and I googled it. The first pinball machine was created in 1931. So that’s pretty cool. Love me some pinball.
I gave money to Palestinians, Planned Parenthood, and my trans friends who we’re struggling to make rent. It’s not a lot, but it’s something positive.
Yep, authority really only exists because we let it.

Feel powerless and wonder when the Stormtroopers will come for this ass?
Watching it all happen from a nearby country?
