    CohhCarnage said something about this.
Game Devs often include requests along these lines for sponsored segments of a stream (and only the parts of the stream paid for), including talking about COVID during the high point of the COVID pandemic.

The odd part that he noted is some of the specific wording, that he attributed to mistranslation - like “feminist propaganda”.

I have no idea about the parts relating to Chinese game dev.

The benefit of the doubt in me says: this is some bad translation and culture disconnect.
The pragmatist in me says: this guides content creators. So, take such content with a pinch of salt in these regards - play the game if it actually seems decent.

I feel like the pragmatist is pretty much default these days, all content guides you to some conclusion. So do what the fuck you want.

Weird, I have a sudden urge to talk about nothing but feminist propaganda, covid and China’s game industry policies.

Fuck right the fuck off, dude. I get the part about using offensive language and insulting other streamers/players but actively forbidding them from mentioning politics, feminism, whatever is weak. Tf is feminist propaganda even?

Someone ran a DND game from a module, but decided to switch the gender of everyone in the module without telling the players.

The players were convinced there was some secret conspiracy to get rid of the men, because the only man they could find anywhere was the unnamed spouse of the blacksmith.

All men: business as usual. All women: there must be a secret conspiracy to erase the men.

20 years ago, our DM invited a guy he knew at work. Dude was new in town, moved there for school, and they got to talking about DnD. After a few months, seemed like a nice, reasonable, guy with compatible interests. Dude was immediately weird once he showed up. After a few games he stopped showing up, much to the relief of the group.

Few months later DM said the guy came to him, angry, that he didn’t tell him that half the party were “feeeemales”. This was before the archetype of an incel/neckbeard was a thing. So, he was just an awkward loser. Seems he felt like DnD was not something for “feeeemales”. We were just glad he came off as kinda cold, maybe a little hostile, for the couple games he showed up for. That could have been a much worse situation, but he showed his ass quickly, in private. DM said the guy stopped talking to him after he told him that if he felt that way, he wasn’t welcome. Then, at the end of the school year, he left DM an e-mail just going on an unhinged incel rant.

Edit: holy shit, this was 25 years ago now. gonna go not think about this now.

By “feminist propaganda” they are probably referring to the false sexism allegations that game journalists have been using to slander the company.

Yes. This article is one of them. There is no evidence of sexism. Just a bunch of mistranslated messages that once properly translated aren’t sexist at all. IGN has already been called out for this, and the tweets have been community noted.

IGN did actually make a non-apology along the lines of “well they should have just commented on the accusations”, but the studio has no obligation responding to accusation from a bunch of people of some dying medium. Ignoring them is no doubt the best thing the studio can do.

Other journalists have since also made stories covering this and know that the statements are false so they started using weasel wording such as “sexist remarks being attributed to” instead of “they said”. It is so obvious that they’re doing this on purpose to hurt the reputation of the studio.

I don’t get how you’re being downvoted for just stating facts.

It’s not like you’re making anything up without any actual evidence, and yet, people just want to hate anything with the words “sexist” or “DEI” because that means the party opposing them is automatically wrong.

It is unfortunately hard to convince someone once they’ve made up their mind.

But as long as people indifferent to the situation see my comment and get a fuller picture, I’m fine with it.

I tend to take a contrarian stance on a lot of things because if it turns out I’m wrong, people will correct me, and I learn something, so downvotes don’t bother me at all.

It’s not a contrarian stance when you’re right, like in this case.

And people are still trying to convince you that you’re wrong, so you have to ignore comments if you know you’re right as well.

Yeah, it’s exactly what you said.

Ignore the downvotes; either people don’t know the history of what the Devs went through, or ignore it on purpose.
