    Dang. Another censorship-ban.

We need more lemmy communities that are willing to tolerate opposition to the trans agenda.

Harry Potter creator goes on rant about asexuals for some reason 🤷🏽‍♂️

Because she is a homophobic piece of shit.

Homophobic? I thought she was just anti-trans.

Either way, I’m very curious how the LGBT community views a wholly trans-phobic shit stain that simultaneously claims to support the gay community. I know just such a person and would like some insight from the community itself.

The reason is simple: she’s a bigot. She has been successful at pushing her transphobic agenda into UK law, and she will continue to move across the spectrum because hate only knows how to hate even when they succeed.

This is exactly the reason I’m shifting from just warning people that buying her shit is immoral so outright calling them bigots for supporting bigotry. If they don’t want to be bigots they can stop giving her their goddamn money.

I support and share most of your opinions. She is a huge bigot and should be accountable for her actions. My only point is that we have kids and teenagers still consuming her books and products that are completely unaware of what is happening and shouldn’t be called out because of that.

While I don’t disagree I think it’s important to keep in mind that kids and teenagers aren’t stupid - they are capable of understanding that you shouldn’t allow a bad person to continue to be a bad person if you have a conversation about why what JKR is doing is bad. Most of the vocal pushback that I’ve experienced offline has actually come from teenagers.

The problem lies squarely with millennial parents who continue to buy books/movies/games/merch for themselves or their young children because of nostalgia. They are old enough to know better, and should be held responsible for their actions.

I disagree with this take. Buying HP stuff won’t change anything. Not “it will change very little”. It will actually do nothing. If the whole world decided to stop buying anything that gave her money, it wouldn’t change her lifestyle at all. She already made enough money that she never has to consider it for her lifestyle. People might as well enjoy what they like and not have one more thing weighing on their mental health. Let people have their escapism.

You should encourage them to pirate any JK Rowling-associated content, then, if these people cannot be assed to read different books by different authors. Though obviously you’re 100% correct in that she’s already fabulously rich and a boycott of her works will not materially harm her. Also, she still has devoted bigoted fans who love being paypiggies, so a boycott is impossible.

She wrote a whole series about how bigotry is bad but in retrospect, it feels like she didn’t really understand why bigotry is bad. She just needed her children’s books to have a moral message and she made a very surface level parallel to the holocaust. Then years later, she showed her ignorance about the holocaust by denying that transgender people were a target.

Probably the most problematic thing in the Harry Potter books is the pro-slavery propaganda with the house elves, which the filmmakers wisely omitted

Eh. It’s more that you hear a lot about the nuts ones. Number 5 on the richest list is currently a guy named Bernard Arnault, who mostly French people know about, while the infamous Peter Thiel is at 129.

Same story here. Rowling may or may not have a full billion, but she’s famous and good at getting rage views like this one.

Did she get snubbed by someone who’s ace or something? Asexuality is possibly the most inoffensive sexuality in existence.

    Like, oh no.

    They don’t experience sexual attraction.

That means they’re probably significantly less likely to objectify or assault you than someone who isn’t ace. Isn’t that a good thing for someone supposedly so concerned with being objectified and violated, Miss Rowling?

What a wildly brain-dead take from someone who loves claiming to be a feminist.

(Yes, I know she’s not actually a feminist, but it’s another piece of hypocrisy to throw on the pile)

It does make me wonder if JK is actually asexual herself, and feels shame about it. Like how men who claim that “being gay is a choice” often feel that way because they consciously forced themselves to be straight despite their attraction to other men.

Didn’t Hermione lead a campaign to liberate house elves but was laughed at by everyone until she dropped it?

Then Harry frees one elf and is considered a hero while the person trying to solve the systemic problems is a whiny bitch. She’s showing how she thinks about the world with that one.

I’ll steelman her POV because it seems people are (rightly) confused.

Asexuals are requesting a day of recognition for what she sees as a negative-identity. Keep in mind, conservatives are often meritocratic.

It’s like if there were a day for “coffee refrainers”, for everyone who doesn’t like drinking coffee. I’m sure if someone dunked on that day and the coffee refrainers, it’d all be in good spirits.

But if someone dunked on asexuality, I’m sure it’d cause a lot of upset and defensive argument, which implies more “merit” to asexuality.

While progressives can go “who cares, just leave em be”, conservatives see all “non-deserved” attention as an affront to meritocracy, that needs to be squashed.

Blind fans? I’ve never met anyone that was a fan of HP that wasn’t aware of who she is exactly, they either agree with her or choose to give her money anyway because they made HP their whole personality and can’t imagine reading any other set of books.
