I was on Reddit for 10 years, and I have absolutely no clue why I was banned. I just moved, so maybe it was because my new ISP dealt me a bad IP?
Anyway, Reddit:
- Has no email, and doesn’t respond to e-mails.
- Doesn’t respond to mod mail, doesn’t tell you why you were banned.
- Doesn’t respond to appeal.
- Autobans any user I create.
- Seemingly doesn’t give a shit about it’s long-term users.
I guess from here on out I’m a… Lemming? Lemmyzen? Lemmy user?
Anyway thanks for having me! Reddit was shit anyway. I’ve been without it for a week now, and my life has definitely improved lol
I quoted a sentence from a banned post (I like to hit people) and asked if OOP understands the difference between “hit” and “hit on” since there are many non native speakers online. Next day I was banned. No repeal. That’s it. I am so fed up.
Hello: Mod logs
Goodbye: Niche communities…Welcome
Modlog in of itself is a content generation master piece 🤣
I want the ability to vote on modlog entries.
Can be frustrating for us though, especially when you give the wrong rule number lol
The only way to get niche communities is to attract the more people to populate them
It’ll only get better, welcome!

Maybe you were upvoting things that Reddit was finding against their ToS?
I saw something about them previously warning users for things that they had been upvoting.
And, a fair warning, your upvotes and downvotes on the fediverse/Lemmy are public even if it’s not shown to you within the Lemmy interface itself.

I suppose anything is possible. Or maybe it’s because I like pineapple on pizza, I wrote about that once too
Banned for having good taste. Right on brand for Reddit.
i think they slightly went back on that, but i noticed. any comment removal either by a sub filter, or by reddit is enough to trigger/flag your account, not even a sub ban. also if your IP suddenly changes to another locaiton, or a different browser they get suspicious. and VPNs are always result in a shadowban eventually.
I’m very familiar with the situation. I was a Reddit user for 3 years. I have a pet project that turned into a small startup for me. I wrote about it in a suitable subreddit where people discussed startups. In the end, I got banned. It’s unclear why. I tried creating new accounts several times, but I was banned almost immediately. I didn’t receive any reasons for the ban via email. I just got fed up. I decided to look for another place to communicate because I was simply tired of it. I have already switched to Pixelfed, Mastodon, and now Lemmy. No more Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, no more algorithms. I’m happy!

on lemmy its much better. if we are banned its because of politics. thankfully i can still post on tech lemmies in other instances. it would be a shame if people could be banned from all the instances just because they disagree with the mods.
Decentralized system doesn’t permit out right removal of an account unlike reddit where wrong speak will get you outright censored.
That system will be down fall of Reddit at the end.
many people discussed on lemmy, thinking thier just culling the numbers to make a read only site, im thinking its that. for one, reddit went public recently, so they need to be attractive to advertisement money, 2ndly they are cleaning house to that effect, behaving like FACEBOOK. its only a matter of time before they go after porn, i think they are targeting NSFW of subs.
the same people on reddit politics, are also the same people on the lemmy ones too, i noticed. try to say every other president solely supported israels expasionism in gaza for decades, they soley believe its unique biden -era only problem, they get mad if you try to point out the propaganda against biden/dems have been enhanced by russian troll farms for a while now, in order to make him lose the eleciton. just avoiding that now.
i got banned from hexbear because i wasnt radical enough xD
I think that’s their sole criteria
“politics”
Fascism (or liberalism on .ml)
there was a post about the american senator wanting to nuke palestine. i said yes: nuke hamas, palestine no. that was the comment that triggered the ban! a mod wrote i was a shit-liberal. im not even american, dont know what that is and i guess im in a different political spekturm.
Welcome!
Had almost the exact same experience, although I never bothered to create a new account. Tried & tried to find an appeal process, as far as I can tell they don’t have one. Still not sure why I was banned.
On the upside, I was looking for a reason to leave, and they gave it to me on a silver platter.
Same thing happened to me. I admit I’ll rage post sometimes and sure I might deserve a subreddit ban here or there. But I’ve never done anything worthy of a site-wide ban. But the reddit admins act like dictators on a power trip. They LOVE to slap people with site-wide bans. For no good reason, and I don’t understand it. The admins have turned the whole site toxic, and places like Lemmy are a direct response to their insane powertripping.
Right now it sucks. Reddit is still the most popular forum on the internet. I pray that someday it won’t be.
reddit upped thier filters recently, so the subreddit mods did the same as well, its pretty hard to justify commenting on it now. ive been on subs like LAMF, FACEPALm for a long time, suddenly some of my accounts can comment because of them claiming an increased in spam.
I was permabanned for “repeated violations on my other account”, despite me only having the one account. I have no idea wtf I did wrong, the automod refused my appeal and they haven’t responded to the email I sent requesting an explanation yet.
I was recently on public Wi-Fi somewhere, which is the only explanation I can think of.
EDIT: Oh, they just don’t check the email anymore and leave everything up to AIs. Great.
If they auto-ban every account you make, you should set up an auto-dialer of account making so they ban every available username eventually. Then nobody can register, and you’ll be a hero lol
You joke but every username is already in use because bot farmers were smart enough to use some cheapo proxies for their traffic lmao
I gave up on appeals. Website thinks my accounts were created after a site suspensions. I’ve never been suspended so i can only guess being on hotel wifi triggered it.
you know its done by an AI if you dont get the incident of the ban, like they usually tell you what triggered. Like ban evasion, they usually tell you your previous account did it.
in anycase like many of us, early this year a bunch of redditors was hit by a massive ban wave, multiple accounts each 5+years olds were all instantly banned with the “no-message”. then the massive random shadowbans that have occured too.
i heard appeals can take months before an admin even reads it, i think most get ignored though.
Also if your not using an appealing the original account they tend to ignore the shadowbans/permabans of the new accounts. any new account creation after a shadowban, will instantly get shadowbanned, so dont bother.
they also keep a record of any of your old deleted accounts, if they participated any a sub that decides to ban you, so any new accounts even years old will be banned.
