Hey it’s more than Michigan got, though maybe we belong to Canada on this map, if so I accept on behalf of the ‘ganders.

When it’s time, I’m sure Canada will love to have you join. Get your application in soon, though, as the worry is a lot of regions will want to join soon - your leader activated his secret police, often an escalation milestone - and there could be a processing* delay.

(Which we pronounce like ‘chosen’ or ‘pronounce’ or ‘pronoun’, if you want to practice now)

No, it’s not particularly high, even compared to all the other mountains in Colorado. What makes it famous is that it stands alone, while the other mountains in the state are all in a mountain range. So it is pretty striking.

I know and from time to time I do, but I also know there is very likely someone here who can give context without it being any effort and since there probably is other people who don’t know anything about Pike’s peak the answers aren’t only for my eyes anyway. If this was a dead topic with nobody browsing these comments or if there was some kind of urgency I’d have chosen another way of getting an answer. Do you care about this long reply? Probably not.

Alaska has the ten tallest US mountains, with Denali being the most spectacular at 6141 m prominence.

The lower 48 states don’t come anywhere near the majesty of Alaska’s mountains, but they have their little spots of local pride. Pike’s Peak was hailed as a huge mountain during western exploration, with a prominence of 1686 m.

This map is taking the piss.

What an interesting reaction to facts. I’m assuming you’re a USer, so I’ll break it down for you in freedom bits:

There is a difference between elevation and prominence.

Denali is 20,310 feet in elevation and 20,146 feet in prominence.

Pike’s Peak is 14,115 feet in elevation and 5530 feet in prominence. (5530 feet = 1,685.544 meters.) This difference in prominence makes Denali appear to rise up to nearly four times the height of PP.

As someone from outside US I prefer the metric answer though

Excuse my ignorance, I looked it up because I got confused: “an altitude of 14,115 feet above sea level” is basically 4,300m so yeah
