Were the tiles stapled to the ceiling? Is that a thing?

Have a tongue and groove system, you staple and glue half, then slide the next one in and repeat.
We have these in our basement, and they’re ok but a pain to fix if one in the middle gets loose.
Wow. I’d definitely rather just have a drop ceiling that’s easier to maintain and I can run network cables through.
I dont think you should put them back in. Maybe alter and clean it up, leave it stylish and exposed.
Might be a sound and temperature insulation solution. Although, if so, I recommend adding some insulation material inbetween the layers.

That’s pretty lucky. Years ago I was adding a ceiling fan and opened a wall in the attic to run the electrical line.
That led to meowing coming from the walls. Luckily we were able to convince her to come out an access panel in the other end of the house.
I installed a new floating floor in a family members trailer and had to replace some of the subfloor where there was rotting and water damage.
I guess one of the cats decided to crawl in when I was cutting the replacement and got shut up in the floor joist cavity.
hours later they called me and said they heard meowing coming from the floor and had a missing cat. they asked what they should do. I told them they could tear up the floor again, crawl under the trailer, or let the the little idiot starve.

before you get upset about the last option, I made it in jest but I did tell them to lock up all their pets because something like that would happen.
Another story, same cat:
I was installing a window unit air conditioner. Step one, pull the unit out of it’s shell. Step two, mount the empty shell in the window. Step three, install the unit back in the mounted shell.
Later as we were enjoying the new coolness of the house, we discovered the cat was missing. I figured out pretty quickly that the little pain in the ass jumped through the empty shell and out the window when I turned around to pick up the unit and finish the install.
Both our cats were indoor-only cats. The older cat would have been able to feed himself, but he also wouldn’t have been stupid enough to go outside in the first place. She in particular did not know how to survive. She got her ass kicked by a beetle once.
We were leaving on vacation the next day. We printed up signs, put them around the neighborhood, and I figured she was gone for good.
When we got back, there was a message on the answering machine that someone had found her, and put her inside our enclosed side porch with a bit of cat food.
We checked, and she was there on the porch. Skinny, dirty, and stupid, but alive.

Ceiling cat!
Technically this breed is a domestic shorthair but my cat has the same markings and is pretty similar. Super outgoing and has zero fear but he’d yowl like hell if he broke his leg. He yowls pretty much all the time though.

That’s a structural support beemeow. Going to have to call an engineer and rework your plans.
One of my pet rats made a hole in my mattress foundation so he could climb inside. I imagine this is what he did in there.
Retile the entire ceiling in cats. Look at all those empty spots in your cat-rack.
where would they poop?
Just cover the entire floor with a layer of kitty litter.
