This is analognowhere, isn’t it?
Yes!
It looks like the Lemmy instance he uses got the “hug of death”, so while it’s down, enjoy some official merch!

Official clippy sticker here
Why are we using a Microsoft mascot as a symbol for fair technology?
Do people need a reminder of what Microsoft was up to when Clippy was a thing?
Other posters have shared a link to why this is happening
Doesn’t matter. Clippy was always hated on up until now, when it became a twisted symbol of the people who’ve had enough, and a mark we wear to symbolize willingness to stand up to bullshit. Kinda the same thing happened with e.g. anti-LGBTQ+ language, which we later adopted into something more positive.

edit 1: hold on, figuring out again how to embed an image
edit 2: figured it out
edit 3: added title text
don’t deprive us from an uplifting nostalgic myth in these trying times
Even Microsoft Bob wouldn’t have hesitated for a second.

I didn’t? how’d I fuck it up this time?
I’m talking to the clippy you successfully embedded
Lois Rossman can be annoying but dammit, he is right a lot.
I changed my avatar to clippy. Cant find the link but it was a thing he was pushing.I’ve seen people call it slacktivism, and I would like to clarify his point: knowing that there are countless people who feel just a strongly as you do about an issue is a necessary prerequisite to actually making a change.
Exactly
If you feel that you’re alone on an issue you’re less likely to stand up about it.
And the more visibility an issue gets the more likely that the issue is gonna gain traction with passionate people who will put boots on the ground.
I kinda like this chaotic good personality. I feel we “needed” somebody like that.
except his SteamDeck video. Still salty about that one.
edit: for context he complained about how it’s not user repair-able and valve said not to touch the battery because it might explode (which isn’t exactly accurate) for legal reasons
however… COMPARE IT TO THE NINTENDO SWITCH! in terms of repairability the steam deck is miles ahead and you can actually install stuff in the hardware you paid hundreds of bucks for
he had all food points in a vacuum but like Nintendo is over there just setting stuff on fire and he’s complaining about the SteamDeck boiling water
Louis does that a lot.
Valve made the Steam Deck super repairable, gave us a literal disassembly tutorial, and partnered with iFixit, and the only thing they mentioned is that opening a device with thread lock will make it weaker and that batteries can be dangerous.
Louis doesn’t actually like that users don’t need his input to repair this device, and feels threatened by iFixit, so suddenly repairability isn’t enough and Steam Deck = bad.
Clippy never tried to normalize sex trafficking
What do you mean with this?
What does this have to do with clippy or sex trafficking?
https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/25/tech/facebook-instagram-app-store-ban-human-trafficking
What the fuck is domestic servitude, facebook?
To be clear, all I just did was type ‘facebook response human trafficking’ into google, click the first article, and right in the first paragraph there’s facebook trying to rename human trafficking.
What has facebook got to do with this? 😭 Am I dumb?
It’s about every service in 2025 that tries to worm its way into your life just to fuck you. Clippy didn’t do that. He was annoying, and popped up, but looking back today he was actually trying to be helpful and actually went away when you told him to, compared to these godawful AI services getting shoved down your throat to harvest your data.
Louis Rossman started it. I’d link the particular video but you should just watch all of his videos.
Yes, I’ve seen a bit of that video, but does he talk about sex trafficking in it? I just find that jump to be so long, and the amount of likes makes it seem like that was an obvious connection to make.
clippy never did that
