  • Fascinating, I didn’t realize the Roman Catholic Church didn’t have deaconesses. The Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches do, and several Protestant denominations do.

Ah, right, okay, reading the Wikipedia page, the presence of deaconesses fell off when the church became institutionalized under Constantine and started removing women from leadership roles. Just went downhill from there.

Good job, Roman Catholic Church. Ignore your own holy text which contains examples of deaconesses in favor of a patriarchal system that was mostly enforced after the Roman government took an interest in the church. 🙄

  • Yeah. When someone told me, “If you agree to pay a fee, for three years they won’t give you a patdown every time you fly because you won’t have to use the scanner that thinks fat people are smugglers, and you won’t have to take your shoes off” my first thought was “fuck yes” and my second thought was “isn’t that the definition of racketeering?”

(Also my very first time using TSA Precheck I was flagged for “random screening” and TSA got one last revenge patdown in. 🙄)

  • But what if instead of adding a third dimension by going UP, you add a third dimension by going FORWARD. Like a computer screen, X and Y coordinates are side-to-side and up-and-down. If you made a volumetric display by adding a third dimension to that, Y would be up and Z would be forward.

I usually think of Z as up, because that’s how stuff based on the physical world usually works. But I can understand why some think of it with Y as up.

  • Oof. Worst time of the year to lose half your singing range if you’re a choral singer. Unless you want to get out of all the holiday concerts. 😂

Seriously though, I’m sorry to hear that. The first time I had COVID it did a number on my voice. I’m not convinced I’ve ever completely recovered, because singing isn’t as easy as I remember it being. I require more breath support than I used to, and sometimes struggle to maintain intonation on surprising notes. Like, not low or high in my range, notes that should be easy.

But it’s better now than it was right after COVID. Much better. I hope yours improves!
