Appreciate it! I’ll keep this in mind if hopping to Bazzite doesn’t magically fix it.

Oh, that’s interesting. I’m assuming my cheap mini PC is using an obscure built-in BT chipset that may not be well supported on Linux. It may actually be the controllers themselves, though no issues on SteamOS. I suppose a dongle that can be unplugged and reconnected to mitigate the issue would at least be an improvement over a built-in chipset with this problem.
Something like a Steam Deck or Steam Machine that “just works” is definitely worthwhile.
I recently bought a cheap mini PC with a 780M for like $380. It’s 2x the GPU power of a Steam Deck but probably half the GPU power of a Steam Machine (likely half the price too).
Anyhow, it’s running Mint and my XBox controllers randomly disconnect. I’ve spent a few hours troubleshooting with no success so far, and my next steps are buy a USB Bluetooth dongle and see if that works or switch to Bazzite. On the other hand, I never had any problems like this with my Steam Deck. I also don’t use Steam and use Lutris instead, which sometimes requires time spent troubleshooting and jacking around with dependencies / GE Proton versions / etc., whereas Steam games would “just work”.
It’s worth the extra time to me to avoid Steam’s data collection and to be able to run alternative versions of games without DRM that I can run semi-sandboxed in the Flatpak version of Lutris with network permissions revoked so the games can’t collect data either. However, I certainly understand people not giving a shit about any of that and just wanting something that works with no trouble.

Yeah, running Linux in all my devices and ditching Android can’t come soon enough.
Even if the OS itself isn’t as optimal on this form factor as we would like, a plethora of touch-friendly apps will make it a more viable option such that there will be enough interest to develop it further.
Same with HTPCs. Maybe the being able to run the Android Netflix and Hulu apps on Linux will help expedite Plasma Bigscreen.
Sounds about like the techbros. Tech isn’t there yet, but let’s deploy it anyway and start making money.

The other companies involved know this as well; they’re just not saying the quiet part out loud.

Yeah, hobbling along with Pegasus Frontend in the meantime. 😔

Always good to have a list of what to avoid so we can all make sure we avoid them.

I have multiple Reolink cameras at this point and just have them recording to a SD card and blocked from the internet.
They have local ML models for human, animal and vehicle detection, so something like Frigate isn’t strictly necessary, though I haven’t bothered setting them up with Home Assistant yet and mainly use them with the Reolink app and VLC with RTSP. Sometimes, I unblock them from the internet temporarily if I’m going to need to access them remotely.

I recently got a mini PC for couch gaming / HTPC functionality, and I installed Mint without ever booting Windows. I’ve been using Mint for a while after years of distro hopping, but I’m having issues with Bluetooth XBox controllers randomly disconnecting. Maybe this is the excuse I’ve been looking for to try Bazzite, although I might just need to get a USB dongle with a chipset known to work on Linux. What I’m really waiting for is an immutable distro with Plasma Bigscreen.

I’m sure they’ll be getting a lot of photos with abnormally long noses and saggy, wrinkled, hairy chins.
Rights are taken by force and then forfeited again by future generations who took no part in the original sacrifice. For example, habeas corpus established in the Magna Carta is less of a guaranteed right in the USA after Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act that legalized indefinite detention of citizens.
I feel a debt of gratitude to people like Linus Torvalds and Ton Roosendaal. In a world full of greedy capitalists trying to extract every last scrap of rent they can from humanity, people like them show us that humanity can do better.

The trip to Mars will be similarly expensive to a trip to the New World back in the day. I can imagine history rhyming with something akin to indentured servitude. Especially if the rockets and resources on Mars are owned by billionaires like Musk.
I use Mint because I want the well-paved path of Ubuntu without Snaps. It’s a fair point that KDE would be a better fit with this mindset, but I like Cinnamon better. Same story with Cosmic and Pop, though it was never my cup of tea.
An equally popular and well-funded distro that is basically Kubuntu without snaps would be compelling, but I don’t know of any distro that fits those qualifications.

I have a RTX 4060 low-profile in my 2U server and am limited to 8GB of VRAM for anything I self-host at the moment. I may consider a larger chassis with a better GPU in the future.

There are 2 reasons a big corporation will ever do anything:
Make number go up
Avoid number going down due to bad PR, government fines, etc.
This probably falls under #2.
Dihydrogen monoxide is potent greenhouse gas that has caused many deaths, and we should stop using it to generate power.
There are some codebases my job forces me to work in that would probably make me rage quit without AI. In this situation, using AI is like wearing a rubber suit when working in a sewer. For all practical purposes, I can’t really do it without AI, though I could build something really awesome without AI to replace it if I were allowed.
