Yeah yeah, I know. Trading their votes for the promise of a vote in the future is kinda dumb. But then, there is this nugget buried here:

There is also a negotiation to reinstate all of the federal workers Trump laid off during the shutdown, the report adds.

That might just be worth it, because it would be Congress passing something that puts direct constraints on what the President can do, and daring him to veto it.

Edited to add: don’t sleep on the 3 spending bills that are being negotiated too. This effort looks like a continuing resolution that extends most agencies through the end of the year, but those 3 bills constitute full appropriations for agriculture, military construction and legislative agencies. And it looks like Democrats may have won back some funding for programs that the House budget gutted. This is all from the NYT, if I happen to find a non-paywall link I’ll add it

I wonder if the bill still has the nation-wide shadow abortion ban in it. I bet it does …

      That was already the law.

That is if Trump doesn’t bother vetoing anything that is a compromise with the Dems right off the bat.

    Fucking cowards.

They caved and got nothing in return except a guaranteed vote that will end in a NO from GOP…

They gave up the SHIELD WALL and got nothing for it.

The deal also includes voting in December to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that Democrats have been fighting to preserve, according to the report.

Vote on it? They don’t control the House or Senate. They’ll lose it.

They have the votes on the Dem side plus GOP defectors to pass something no problem. It would political suicide for the GOP people siding with Dems right to bail on it in a month, especially after people just got hit hard by this shutdown and the bills for their upcoming ACA premiums. I think they’ve got the votes.

I’m sure they’ll have that vote right after they swear in that congresswoman and release the Epstein files.

Oh, yes, I’m sure they’ll follow through on their pinky promise to be civil like they have every other time in history when they get the chance to dig in. And I’m also sure that Trump will happily not veto a democratic bill to make an example or anything.

If this was true, there would be no reason not to vote on it all together.

This happened under Biden. (Schumer then, too, I belive) Separated a bill, passed the parts the Republicans wanted, then the Republicans voted against the part the Democrat wanted.

Bend over, here it comes again.

Oh good a vote in the Senate. Fucking Mike Johnson will never bring it up in the house and you just traded away everything for nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Dems wonder why people have a shit opinion of them and its this.

These fuckers are completely complicit. Republicans’ word is absolutely worthless. How can the claim they’ll vote on healthcare in December be at all believed?

And we will once again be forced to watch as the Democrats find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

They won the elections in a landslide only to turn around and IMMEDIATELY fuck it up.

If they were gonna cave, why put everyone through all the pain first?

Why pretend they even care at this point?

Mamdani for President! Legit seems to be the only one who actually cares.

    Reached a deal.

They didn’t reach any deal since they didn’t get anything for the American people.

These collaborators capitulated and sold the Democrats and the American people out.

But you know what the best part about this is? Trump and the Repbulicans now get to point out, right or wrong, that see Democrats were the ones who caused the shutdown and they get a chance to spout off more propaganda about how Democrats are to blame for the incoming Republican caused premium hikes. And the American people are going to just eat it up.
